Job summary

Delray EyeAssociates in Delray Beach is seeking an experienced Ophthalmic Scribe who is energetic, patient-focused, and thrives in a collaborative team environment. You will document exams, maintain efficient patient flow, and support seamless communication for exceptional patient care.

If you have ophthalmology terminology knowledge, at least one year of scribing experience, and are proficient with Nextech EMR, you’ll make an immediate impact.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly with patients, staff, managers, and doctors.
  • Basic computer literacy required.
  • Highly energetic with a positive attitude.
  • Must be willing to travel to other offices occasionally.
  • Must be able to walk and stand for eight hours.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) preferred.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Scribe (OSC) preferred/Ability to obtain certification within one year of employment.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred.
  • Two years as medical scribe preferred.
  • Knowledge of ophthalmology billing/coding strongly preferred.
  • NextGen or applicable EHR experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Make introductions and establish rapport with patients.
  • Document chief complaint, history, review of systems, and ocular findings accurately per guidelines.
  • Document medical visits and procedures as performed by physician.
  • Communicate follow-up care, surgeries, procedures, and schedules to patients.
  • Maintain and clean ophthalmic equipment and inventory.
  • Apply correct ICD-10 and CPT codes.
  • Navigate NextGen or applicable EHR.
  • Process prescription refills with full documentation.
  • Educate patients on medication administration.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a positive relationship with doctors and colleagues.
  • Open/close exam lanes and ensure equipment is properly managed.

Responsibilities
  • Make introductions and establish rapport with patients
  • Initiate patient evaluation, documenting the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and all pertinent ocular findings accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines
  • Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician, and other procedures
  • Communicate with patients regarding follow up care, surgeries, procedures, changes in schedule, signs and symptoms, surgery schedules
  • Maintain and cleans all ophthalmic equipment being used
  • Ability to document and apply correct ICD-10 and CPT Codes
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with strong attention to detail.
  • Effectively navigate NextGen software or applicable EHR
  • Complete requests for prescription refills as authorized by physician, with full documentation in patient chart
  • Educate patients regarding administration of medications
  • Check temperature of medical refrigerator daily
  • Maintain and conduct inventory of medications and supplies
  • Assist with maintenance of clinical examination equipment
  • Clean surgical instruments in preparation for sterile processing
  • Inspect instruments periodically for damage, send for repair, and request a replacement, as necessary
  • Open and close exam lanes daily, ensuring equipment is wiped down in an appropriate manner and as per office procedures, battery powered instruments are seated properly in re-charge wells, slit lamps and projectors are switched off under covers
  • Follow all safety procedures as per guidelines
  • Prioritize building and maintaining a positive relationship with doctors and clinical colleagues
  • Executes duties of position in a professional and courteous manner
  • Handles sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned

  • Certified Ophthalmic Scribe (OSC) preferred/Ability to obtain certification within one year of employment
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred
  • Two years as medical scribe preferred
  • Knowledge of ophthalmology billing/coding strongly preferred
  • NextGen or applicable EHR experience preferred
