Job summary

Sight360 is seeking an Ophthalmic Scribe - Retina to support physicians by preparing exam rooms, recording patient history, and scribing encounters. You will coordinate care and ensure documentation is accurate for efficient patient management.

Responsibilities include assisting with exams, maintaining sterile technique, and communicating instructions to patients and referring offices. Travel between clinic locations may be required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year experience as ophthalmic scribe.
• Ability to navigate an EHR system.
• Working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding and ocular terminology.
• Strong attention to detail and written/verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Perform and record results of basic ocular screening and patient history.
• Assist in efficient patient flow through clinic sequence and evaluation.
• Medically assist the doctor during the patient examination.
• Scribe and document for the doctor.
• Prepare examination rooms with medications, forms, consents and educational materials.
• Coordinate special testing needs with technicians and surgical needs with counselors.
• Create a sterile environment using sterile technique.
• Handle patient calls and pharmacy calls; respond the same day.
• Relay doctor instructions to patients and offices; fax reports as directed.
• Support other clinic personnel as needed.

Position Summary

The Ophthalmic Scribe - Retina is responsible for supporting the physician by preparing exam room and appropriate equipment, preparing patients for provider examination by performing and recording appropriate diagnostics, reviewing and recording patient medical history, accurately scribing all patient encounters including consultations and/or discussions with approved family members, referring providers, and or PCP, documenting the patient encounter, and coordinating patient care as directed by the treating provider to allow for proper diagnosis and treatment of patients’ conditions. Travel between clinic locations and/or overtime may be required based on operational needs.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Perform and record results of basic ocular screening and patient history including Manual refractions, Lensometry, Tonometry, Visual Fields, OCTs, Amsler grids, Muscle Testing, Pupil Exams, Topography


• Assist in the efficient movement/flow of patients through sequence and evaluation.


• Medically assist the doctor through the patient examination.


• Scribe and document for the doctor.


• Prepare examination rooms to provide all needed medications, forms, consents and educational materials.


• Coordinate special testing needs with technicians and surgical needs with the surgical counselors.


• Create a sterile environment using sterile technique.


• Assist doctor with patient calls, pharmacy calls, etc; return all patient phone calls the same day received.


• Communicate all doctor instructions to patients and/or other doctors’ offices as directed; fax reports, letters, post op visits, etc., to referring doctors.


• Provide assistance to other clinic personnel as needed.

Requirements

Qualifications

• Ability to navigate EHR software system


• Working knowledge of ophthalmic and medication terminology, equipment and CPT and ICD-10 coding


• Working knowledge of basic Ocular anatomy


• Certification preferred by not required
