Job summary

Katzen Eye Group is seeking a patient-focused Ophthalmic Scribe for our Bel Air, MD office, with travel to nearby Baltimore Metro locations. This full-time position offers a robust benefits package and a team-oriented environment where you are heard and respected.

No late evenings, major holidays or Sundays. The top candidate will have at least one year of ophthalmic scribe experience or two years as an ophthalmic technician.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with patients, staff, managers, and doctors.
  • Basic computer literacy is required.
  • Must be willing to travel to other offices occasionally to meet business demands.
  • Able to walk and stand for eight hours.
  • Must be able to type or write legibly in dimly lit settings.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) preferred.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Scribe (OSC) preferred / ability to obtain certification within one year of employment.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred.
  • Two years as medical scribe preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Make introductions and establish rapport with patients.
  • Initiate patient evaluation and document history, ocular findings and chief complaint accurately.
  • Document medical visits and procedures as performed by the physician and others.
  • Communicate with patients regarding follow-up care, surgeries, and schedule changes.
  • Maintain and clean ophthalmic equipment and document coding accurately.
  • Navigate NextGen or applicable EHR and manage multiple tasks with attention to detail.
  • Assist with medication refills and patient education on medications.
  • Prepare instruments and maintain clinic exam lanes and inventory.

Katzen Eye Group is searching for a patient focused, experienced Ophthalmic Scribe f or our Bel Air, MD. office with travel to our other close in Baltimore Metro office locations - No late evenings, no major holidays or Sundays, a robust benefits package, a team-oriented working environment where you are seen, heard and respected as well as clear career ladder opportunities.

Our Top Candidate must bring at least one year of previous, verifiable experience as an Ophthalmic Scribe or two years as an Ophthalmic Technician in a busy practice.

As an Ophthalmic Scribe you will provide accurate documentation and summarization of the examination and recommendations, while maintaining patient flow and communication regarding appointment status.

Responsibilities:
  • Make introductions and establish rapport with patients
  • Initiate patient evaluation, documenting the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and all pertinent ocular findings accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines
  • Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician, and other procedures
  • Communicates with patients regarding follow up care, surgeries, procedures, changes in schedule, signs and symptoms, surgery schedules
  • Maintains and cleans all ophthalmic equipment being used
  • Ability to document and apply correct ICD-10 and CPT Codes
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with strong attention to detail.
  • Effectively navigate NextGen software or applicable EHR
  • Complete requests for prescription refills as authorized by physician, with full documentation in patient chart
  • Educate patients regarding administration of medications
  • Check temperature of medical refrigerator daily
  • Maintain and conduct inventory of medications and supplies
  • Assist with maintenance of clinical examination equipment
  • Clean surgical instruments in preparation for sterile processing
  • Inspect instruments periodically for damage, send for repair, and request a replacement, as necessary
  • Open and close exam lanes daily, ensuring equipment is wiped down in an appropriate manner and as per office procedures, battery powered instruments are seated properly in re-charge wells, slit lamps and projectors are switched off under covers
  • Follow all safety procedures as per guidelines
  • Prioritize building and maintaining a positive relationship with doctors and clinical colleagues
  • Executes duties of position in a professional and courteous manner
  • Handles sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
