Job summary

Eye Health America, through Carolinas Centers for Sight, is seeking an ophthalmic scribe to document and summarize ocular examinations while maintaining patient flow and communication on appointment status.

The role focuses on accurate charting of examinations, assisting during exams as needed, and completing superbills and billing orders under physician direction. Minimum two years in a medical office and a scribe certification are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years’ experience in a medical office.
• Scribe certification (preferably certified ophthalmic assistant).

Responsibilities

• Correctly summarizes and documents what the physician verbalizes during an examination, including proper charting, chief complaint, assessment, and treatment recommendations.
• Observes the patient and the physician and assists during the exam as needed.
• Maintains awareness of patient communication; repeats information, provides written instructions, and hands out patient education materials when appropriate.
• Completes superbill or billing orders and/or the check-out form as directed by the physician.
• Becomes fluent in the exact requirements of each examination.
