Job summary

University of California, Davis is seeking a Junior Specialist in Ophthalmology & Vision Science to support mouse model research and retinal imaging, including data acquisition and analysis for publications.

The successful candidate will perform genotyping, DNA work, immunohistochemistry, and help prepare manuscripts while mentoring undergraduates and maintaining lab safety and regulatory compliance. Weekend hours may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biology or related field and at least one year of undergraduate lab research.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Willingness to mentor undergraduates in the lab.
• Computer science or programming skills and experience with lab animal handling preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, execute and present mouse model research, including image acquisition and data processing.
• In vivo and ex vivo mouse retinal imaging and selection of testing areas.
• Genotyping, DNA isolation, PCR, tissue extraction and immunohistochemistry.
• Maintain safety standards, order supplies and complete paperwork.
• Assist in manuscript preparation and data presentation for publications.
• Attend symposia and present at meetings such as ARVO and Photonic West.
• Mentor undergraduate students and participate in lab meetings.
