Job summary

Ouzinkie Native Corporation seeks an ophthalmology assistant to perform refractive laser center services and support all aspects of patient care. You will screen patients, escort them to treatment areas, and conduct initial medical screenings including history, acuity tests, and basic ophthalmic measurements.

The role requires knowledge of ophthalmic equipment, data entry, and adherence to safety and privacy standards.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Must be current in CPR/BLS during contract performance.
Must have knowledge of medical terminology to interpret departmental instructions.
Must have at least two (2) years’ experience in the last four (4) years as an ophthalmology assistant.
Must be trained to use and maintain autorefractor, phoropter, tonopen, visual field machine, corneal topographer, pachymeter, specular microscope, ophthalmic photography equipment, slit lamp, and personnel computers.
Must be proficient with data entry into Microsoft Excel.
Must obtain and maintain Healthcare Provider BLS.
Must meet site health screening and immunization requirements.
Must read/write/speak English well.
Must obtain site security access and background checks.
Must obtain and maintain all credentialing documents for initial hire.

Responsibilities

Perform refractive surgery services and support in ophthalmology as needed.
Assemble, maintain, and operate medical diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.
Perform ophthalmic studies including autorefraction, keratometry, tonometry, visual field, pachymetry, and ophthalmic photography.
Prepare rooms and patients for examinations and procedures with necessary equipment.
Take and record physiological measurements.
Provide medications under supervision.
Chaperone patients between offices/clinics.
Review and manage patient medical records and health record storage.
Prepare and submit administrative data as required.
Educate patients/parents about risks of laser surgery as requested.
Ensure equipment cleaning and storage and safe work environment.
Maintain privacy and dignity of patients.
May assist with day-to-day ophthalmology operations.
Maintain regular attendance and perform other duties as assigned.
