Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • BLS certification within 30 days through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and responsible.
  • Compassionate and caring approach.
  • Ability to perform ophthalmic diagnostic and preliminary testing.
  • Ability to use ophthalmic equipment and methods.
  • Ability to assist physicians and nursing staff with procedures.
  • Ability to document patient information in the EMR.
  • Ability to perform visual acuity screening.
  • Ability to maintain and clean ophthalmic instruments.
  • Ability to instill eye drops.

Responsibilities

  • Complete initial patient screening.
  • Document pertinent patient information in the EMR.
  • Perform ophthalmic diagnostic testing using appropriate equipment and methods.
  • Assist physicians and nursing staff with procedures using proper techniques.
  • Assist nurses with patient communication through the EMR worklist.
  • Maintain the patient care environment and supplies to ensure privacy and safety.
  • Gather medical records and patient information.
  • Perform visual acuity screening.
  • Perform ophthalmic preliminary and diagnostic tests.
  • Assist with in-office procedures.
  • Maintain and clean ophthalmic instruments.
  • Instill eye drops.
  • Assist with patient scheduling.
  • Assist with training other ophthalmic assistants.
