OPHTHALMIC ASSISTANT TRAINING: Adjunct / Substitute Instructor POOL (non-credit)

Classification Title: OPHTHALMIC ASSISTANT TRAINING: Adjunct / Substitute Instructor POOL (non-credit)

Position Type: Adjunct

Location: District Wide (City, Mesa, Miramar campuses and continuing education centers)

Work Arrangement: Part‑time/temporary faculty positions offered on an as‑needed basis across day, evening, weekend, and off‑campus classes. Applicants should live within commuting distance to San Diego.

Pay Information: Salary is based on the Adjunct College Salary Schedule and is placed upon receipt of official transcripts and verifications of previous work experience, if applicable. Initial salary placement at the first class/step until all required documentation has been submitted.

Major Responsibilities

• Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines;
• Teach all scheduled lecture and laboratory classes as assigned;
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge in the subject matter areas;
• Maintain accurate records;
• Provide quality instruction, create and maintain an environment encouraging discussion of ideas, interests, and issues;
• Ensure availability to students outside of class times;
• Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught;
• Associate degree and at least six years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught;
• Possession of a full‑time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in the subject matter, or the equivalent.

Desired Qualifications:

• Graduation from a JCAPO approved program for Ophthalmic Technician;
• Certified Ophthalmic Technician;
• IJCAPO Registered Ophthalmic Ultrasound Biometrist.

Equivalency

Applicants lacking the required degree may submit a “Request for Equivalency” form along with a professional evaluation of foreign degrees where applicable.

Full‑time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in the subject matter.
