Job summary

Houston Eye Associates is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to support ophthalmologists by preparing patients, performing tests, and documenting exam information in the EMR. The role includes scribing duties and assisting with in-office procedures, with travel between Kingwood and Gramercy locations as needed.

Qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED, BLS certification within 6 months, 1–2 years ophthalmology experience, and optional JCAHPO COA/COT/COMT certification within 1 year.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLS certification required within 6 months of hire.
• Uncertified Ophthalmic Assistants must obtain JCAHPO COA/COT/COMT certification within 1 year of employment.
• 1-2 years ophthalmology experience; bilingual Spanish preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Stock, prep, and maintain clean exam rooms.
• Review patient charts for accuracy.
• Prepare patients for physicians' exams and perform tests as directed.
• Assist with in-office procedures and document exam information in EMR.
• Order diagnostic tests electronically and manage prescriptions under physician direction.
• Schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments.
• Adhere to HEA policies and patient confidentiality.
