Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks an Ophthalmic Assistant to support physicians with testing and patient care at the Glenview Outpatient clinic. The role includes performing tests, documenting histories, and assisting with procedures in a fast-paced ophthalmology setting.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, BLS certification, COA through JCAHPO, and 0–2 years of related experience; 2 years with surgical assistance preferred. Schedule is Monday–Friday, with occasional Saturdays.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification.
• COA certification through JCAHPO (MDs exempt).
• 0–2 years of experience in a relevant role.
• Preferred: 2 years related experience; surgical assistance experience.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients and documents histories.
• Performs tests: refractions, tonometry, visual fields, OCT, and more.
• Assists physician with patient care and minor surgery.
• Communicates follow-ups, scheduling, and returns calls.
• Maintains and cleans equipment; reports issues.
• May perform other duties as assigned.
