Job summary

American Vision Partners (AVP) seeks an Ophthalmic Assistant to prepare patients for exams, collect medical information, and perform preliminary tests to ensure a high-quality patient experience. You will work with physicians to support clinic flow and maintain accurate EHR records.

Ideal candidates have a High School Diploma or GED, up to one year in ophthalmology, and strong communication skills; COA/COT is a plus.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of experience in Ophthalmology preferred.
• COA or COT is a plus.
• Detail oriented with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Flexible schedule working Monday-Friday.

Responsibilities

• Welcomes patients and visitors with a positive, warm disposition.
• Keeps doctors’ rooms filled to ensure clinic patient flow.
• Obtains patient histories through intake assessments, noting findings in EHR.
• Performs visual acuity, auto-refraction, lensometry, tonometry and keratometry tests.
• Checks pupils, extra-ocular muscles and dilates as needed.
• Runs diagnostic tests such as Immersion A-scan, OCTs and Visual Fields.
• Educates patients on ophthalmic conditions and consent for procedures and surgery.
• Assists in minor office procedures (lasers, excisions, etc.).
• Maintains exam rooms and sterilization as necessary.
