Job summary

American Vision Partners (AVP) is hiring an Ophthalmic Assistant to prepare patients for exams, gather medical information, and perform preliminary tests. You will support doctors, collect histories, and help maintain high-quality patient experiences in a fast-paced eye care setting.

You’ll perform visual tests, assist with procedures, and educate patients while ensuring accurate documentation in the EHR. Monday–Friday schedule with opportunities for growth and professional development.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• At least 1 year of experience in Ophthalmology preferred.
• COA or COT certification is a plus.
• Detail oriented; reliable and able to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Flexible schedule Monday–Friday.

Responsibilities

• Welcomes patients and visitors with a positive, warm disposition.
• Keeps doctors’ rooms filled to ensure clinic patient flow.
• Obtains patient histories through intake assessments, noting findings in EHR.
• Performs visual acuity, auto-refraction, lensometry, tonometry, and keratometry tests on patients.
• Checks pupils, EOMs, and dilates with eye drops.
• Runs diagnostic tests such as A-scan, OCTs and Visual Fields.
• Administers color vision and Schirmer’s tear testing as needed.
• Assists in minor office procedures (lasers, excisions, etc.).
• Educates patients on ophthalmic conditions and consent for procedures.
• Maintains exam rooms, including cleaning/sterilization.
