Job summary

CEENTA in Charlotte, NC is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to support Providers in delivering high‑quality patient care. You will perform clinical testing, assist with exams and procedures, and help keep our ophthalmic clinics running smoothly.

Responsibilities include greeting patients, obtaining histories, conducting testing (VA, fields, tonometry, keratometry, OCT), aiding with in‑office procedures, acting as a scribe, and coordinating schedules. Travel to other CEENTA sites may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 6 months to 1 year of ophthalmology or optometry experience.
• ICA‑accredited training or IJCAHPO/AAO independent study program preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet, room, and perform patient intake, including vision history and chief complaints.
• Obtain and document medical/surgical history, chief complaint, HPI, vital signs, medications and allergies in the EHR.
• Perform ophthalmic testing and workups including VA, confrontation fields, pupil assessment, tonometry, keratometry, refraction, OCT, and more.
• Assist Provider with exams, treatments, and in‑office procedures; may administer medications.
• Serve as a scribe when needed and document findings accurately in the EHR.
• Schedule appointments, procedures, and surgeries; maintain Provider schedules; manage clinical documents.
• Clean, restock, and sterilize exam rooms; follow OSHA safety standards.
• Support onboarding and cross‑training of staff; travel to other CEENTA locations as needed.
