Qualifications

  • Specialized Diploma Medical Assistant/Administrative Medical Assistant or Ophthalmic experience.
  • 1 year medical office or ophthalmic experience.
  • Ability to accept and adapt to constant change within a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with appointments and telephone screening activities.
  • Communicates with pharmacies regarding prescription refills and records prescriptions in patient charts.
  • Performs basic slit lamp examinations and basic ocular motility testing.
  • Administers ophthalmic drops and ointments; applies ocular dressings and shields.
  • Assists in the measuring of prescription glasses and tonometry.
  • Assists with minor surgical procedures, intraocular injections, and laser treatments.
  • Assists with contact lens fitting and patient instructions.
