Job summary

Retina Group of Washington in Annapolis, MD is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to support physicians with diagnostic testing, measurements, and documentation vital to patient evaluation and treatment planning.

You will perform tests such as OCT, visual fields, photography, pachymetry and biometry, assist with exams, and maintain EMR records while delivering compassionate, accurate patient care in a fast-paced ophthalmic setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 0-2 years ophthalmic assistant experience for OA-I; 2+ years OA-II experience.
• Ability to document patient information accurately and comply with regulations.

Responsibilities

• Review patient charts for completeness and accuracy.
• Record ocular and systemic history and visual acuity.
• Perform diagnostic tests: OCT, visual fields, photography, pachymetry, biometry.
• Conduct slit-lamp exams including tonometry and anterior chamber assessment.
• Scribe during exams and enter data into EMR.
• Administer topical or oral medications.
• Assist with informed consent and patient education.
• Manage patient flow and maintain exam room cleanliness.
• Ensure compliance with procedures and regulations.
• Maintain professional attitude and teamwork.
