Job summary

Silver Spring Eye Center is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to support physicians with measurements and tests, record data, and assist with patient education. This onsite role requires accurate documentation and compliance with applicable standards.

The position involves performing tests such as OCT, visual fields, photography, pachymetry, and biometry, and helping manage patient flow throughout the day. High school diploma required; degree preferred; 0-2 years of ophthalmic assistant experience

Qualifications

• Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
• Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline preferred.
• OA1 Experience: 0-2 years of prior ophthalmic assistant experience OAII Experience: 2+ years of prior ophthalmic assistant experience

Responsibilities

• Review patient charts to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
• Take ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
• Perform tests required by type of exam scheduled, including OCT, automated visual fields, photography, pachymetry, biometry.
• Perform lensometry, automated refractometry, slit lamp exam with tonometry and anterior chamber assessment.
• Perform advanced ophthalmic procedures.
• Act as scribe entering data into EMR or paper charts.
• Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications.
• Assist with ensuring office procedures follow protocols and obtain informed consent.
• Assist with patient education and oversee patient flow.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms and comply with regulations.
