Job summary

NJRetina in Wayne, NJ is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to support physicians with diagnostic tests, history taking, and patient documentation. This role involves hands-on testing like OCT, visual fields, photography, and tonometry while ensuring accurate EMR entry.

The position is full-time, non-exempt with travel to Roxbury and Morristown as needed. Candidates should be detail-oriented, compassionate, and able to maintain patient flow and exam room readiness.

Qualifications

• High School/GED required with preferred Bachelor's degree.
• 0-2 years ophthalmic assistant experience
• 2+ years ophthalmic assistant experience

Responsibilities

• Review patient charts for completeness and accuracy.
• Record ocular and systemic history and visual acuity.
• Perform tests: OCT, visual fields, photography, pachymetry, biometry.
• Conduct slit lamp exam with tonometry and anterior chamber assessment.
• Provide advanced ophthalmic procedures.
• Act as scribe and enter data into EMR or paper charts.
• Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications.
• Ensure procedures and informed consent are followed.
• Assist with patient education and flow management.
• Maintain exam room cleanliness and orderliness.
