Job summary

Allied Machine & Engineering Corp. in Dover, OH is seeking an entry-level Operator/Set-up for thickness grinding of high-speed steel and carbide blades.

You will set up, run production, inspect dimensions with a digital indicator stand, and help ensure parts meet print specifications. The role requires reading blueprints, handling micrometers and calipers, following on-line work instructions, and maintaining safety and quality.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience with micrometers, calipers, or dial indicators preferred.
• Completion of 90-day probation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set up and run thickness grinding on blades.
• Inspect dimensions with digital indicator stand.
• Inspect taper with digital indicator stand.
• Change grinding wheels and truing wheels as required.
• Wash parts.
• Report problems and assist in testing.
• Ensure ground surfaces meet size and flatness specifications.
• Follow on-line work instructions and charts.
• Maintain high quality and efficiency.
• Operate safely at all times.
• Accurately report job transactions.
• Fill NCR for blades that do not meet quality standards.
• Follow inspection plan.
• Minimize absenteeism and tardiness as determined by management.
• Follow instructions and procedures cooperatively.
• Use micrometers and calipers properly.
• Read and understand blueprints.
• Plan flow of product through the cell to keep machines running and meet due dates.

JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Operator/Set-up Thickness Grind

LEVEL OF AUTHORITY: Associate

THIS POSITION REPORTS TO: Grind Blades Supervisor

JOB TITLES REPORTING TO THIS POSITION: None

ROLE: To finish grind drill insert thickness.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Set-up and run production (thickness grinding of high-speed steel and carbide blades)
• Inspect print dimensions using digital indicator stand
• Inspect parts for taper using digital indicator stand
• Change grinding wheels and truing wheels as required
• Wash parts
• Communicate application/operation problems to department leaders, and assist in testing/problem solving
• Inspect ground surfaces for size and flatness specifications
• Must be able to access all on-line work instructions and Charts.
• Observe and report all areas that need addressed.
• Maintain a high quality level as well as a high rate of efficiency.
• Work in a safe manner at all times.
• Correct reporting of job transactions.
• Fill out NCR for blades that do not meet our quality standards
• Follow inspection plan
• Maintain low absenteeism/tardiness as determined by management.
• Willingness to follow instructions and procedures in a cooperative manner.
• Proper use and care of micrometers and calipers.
• Read and understand blueprints.
• Plan flow of product through the cell to keep machines running and to maintain hitting the due dates

QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:

Education

High School Graduate or GED equivalent

Experience

• Working knowledge of finish grinding operations / preferred
• Experience with micrometers, calipers, and dial indicator gauges / preferred
• Must have completed 90-day probation. / preferred

Skills

• Good math skills, addition, subtraction, multiplication
• Detail oriented, good planning and organizational skills.
• Good manual dexterity

Minimum Requirements

• Able to lift 32 Lbs.
• Able to be on feet for 12 hours with continuous movement
