Job summary

BJC HealthCare’s Christian Hospital facility in St. Louis seeks a Plant Operations Technician for the 2nd shift (2:30 pm–11:00 pm), Tuesday through Saturday.

The role supports safe operation and maintenance of hospital mechanical systems across facilities and collaborates with the Plant Operations Department. The position emphasizes preventive maintenance, regulatory compliance, and timely response to equipment issues to ensure continuous, safe hospital operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2–5 years of related experience in plant operations.
• HVAC/EPA refrigeration certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Keeps equipment clean and operational and follows infection control guidelines.
• Operates, repairs, troubleshoots, and maintains physical plant equipment per procedures and regulations.
• Completes preventive maintenance using approved procedures and manufacturer specifications.
• Notifies leadership of equipment malfunctions or boiler issues.
• Monitors elevators and dispatches repair personnel when needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Provides the necessary skill for operation and maintenance of the physical plant systems in a manner to ensure safe operation, optimum performance, and maximum efficiency and all other duties as required. Provides the most difficult repairs and overhauls on any of the mechanical equipment in any facility in the system.

Responsibilities

• Keeps equipment clean and operational. Handles and disposes of hazardous and or infectious waste properly and practices infection control. Adheres to regulatory guidelines.
• Operates, repairs, troubleshoots, and maintains all physical plant equipment in compliance with all department procedures and policies, and all applicable compliance, safety, federal, state and local regulations.
• Completes all assigned critical and routine equipment preventative maintenance by utilizing approved procedures, department policies, and manufacturer‘s specifications.
• Notifies appropriate leadership in the event of equipment malfunction, boiler casualty, or any other unforeseen event that negatively impact the operation of the boiler plant or the hospital steam system.
• Monitors elevators and determines if a repairman needs to be dispatched.
