Job summary

Commercial Metals Company (CMC) is seeking a hands-on Production Operator to join our team at steel mills and fabrication facilities. You will support safety programs, operate manufacturing equipment, and assist with routine maintenance to keep production moving.

In this role you will work in a fast-paced environment, collaborate with skilled teammates, and follow start-up/shutdown procedures while maintaining housekeeping and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts including weekends/holidays.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must learn quickly and multitask.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in safety programs and uphold the safety culture.
  • Communicate production issues and needs with team.
  • Ensure daily equipment inspection reports are completed.
  • Perform minor maintenance or repairs as needed.
  • Maintain daily housekeeping of work area.
  • Understand start-up, shutdown, and emergency procedures for the EAF and Caster.
  • Assist Utility Operator and Assistant Furnace Operator with electrode exchanges.
  • Assist in tapping heat and alloy additions to de-oxidize the heat.
  • Visually inspect furnace for leaks, wear, and heel control.

What You'll Do
  • Participate in the CMC Safety Programs and proactively uphold the CMC Safety Culture
  • Effectively communicate with others about possible production issues, concerns, and needs
  • Ensure equipment inspection reports are filled out each shift
  • Perform minor/routine maintenance or repairs as needed without the assistance of maintenance personnel
  • Responsible for daily housekeeping duties including but not limited to immediate work area
  • Understand start up, shutdown, and emergency procedures for theEAFand Caster
  • Assist Utility Operator and Assistant Furnace Operator with the exchanging of electrodes
  • Assist in tapping the heat from the furnace including making alloy additions to de-oxidize the heat
  • Visually inspect furnace for problems (water leaks, refractory wear, and heel control)
What You'll Need
  • Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment, with excellent strong work ethic, attention to detail, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with exposure to extremes in temperature, chemical, dust fumes and mists, uneven surfaces, loud noise, elevated work areas, and confined spaces
  • Basic computer skills
  • Dependability in attendance, work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs
  • Must be able to learn quickly and multitask
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Some overtime will be required
  • Work on a rotating shift which may include weekends and holidays
