Job Summary

The CMM Operator supports the Quality and Manufacturing teams by performing dimensional inspections of precision-machined components used in the assembly of rugged computer systems. This role operates coordinating measuring machines (CMMs) and other precision inspection equipment to verify that components meet engineering drawings, specifications, and quality requirements. Key responsibilities include setting up and running established CMM programs, interpreting inspection results, documenting findings, and communicating quality concerns to the appropriate team members.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate coordinate measuring machines according to established programs, inspection plans, engineering drawings, and work instructions.
  • Select and install the appropriate probes, fixtures, and inspection equipment for each part.
  • Properly position, align, and secure components before beginning the inspection process.
  • Run established CMM programs and monitor the inspection process to ensure accurate and repeatable results.
  • Perform dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) requirements.
  • Review inspection data to determine whether components meet specified tolerances and quality standards.
  • Identify, document, and report nonconforming materials, dimensional discrepancies, or equipment concerns.
  • Communicate inspection results and quality concerns to Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, and other appropriate team members.
  • Complete required documentation, including inspection reports, job travelers, first article inspection records, and quality system entries.
  • Maintain accurate and organized inspection records in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with first article, in-process, receiving, and final inspections as needed.
  • Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance of CMM equipment, probes, fixtures, and the inspection area.
  • Verify that inspection equipment is within its required calibration period before use.
  • Follow all safety procedures and contribute to a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of dimensional inspection methods, quality control processes, calibration requirements, and manufacturing practices. Understanding of coordinate measuring machine operations, established inspection programs, engineering drawings, blueprints, tolerances, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Proficiency in operating CMM equipment and using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, pin gauges, and surface plates. Ability to interpret inspection plans, work instructions, technical specifications, and measurement results to determine whether components meet quality requirements. Strong attention to detail, accuracy, organization, time management, and documentation. Basic computer skills for entering inspection results and maintaining electronic quality records. Effective problem-solving, troubleshooting, communication, and teamwork skills. Ability to work independently, manage multiple inspection priorities, meet production deadlines, lift up to 50 pounds, and stand for extended periods.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be a US Person (US Citizen, person granted US Permanent Resident Card or any individual who is granted status as a "protected person")
  • Education requirements: GED/High School Diploma
  • 1+ years of experience operating CMM equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, setup sheets, and technical drawings.
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Basic understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience using precision measuring tools, including micrometers and calipers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two or more years of experience operating CMM equipment in a production or precision-manufacturing environment.
  • Completion of quality, machining, manufacturing technology, or metrology certificate program.
  • Experience operating CMM equipment using PC-DMIS, Calypso, MODUS, or similar inspection software.
  • Experience making basic adjustments or edits to established CMM programs.
  • Experience performing first article, in-process, receiving, or final inspections.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar quality management systems.
  • Experience completing first article inspection documentation in accordance with AS9102 requirements.
  • Familiarity with nonconforming material processes and corrective action activities.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Proven record of consistent inspection accuracy, productivity, documentation, and workplace safety.
Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in a manufacturing environment with consistent exposure to the manufacturing floor and testing environments. May require lifting up to 40 lbs. and standing for extended periods of time.
