Job summary

Wabtec in Wytheville, VA is seeking a manufacturing operator to operate compression presses, perform TPM on packing cup components, and mix urethane spray per SOP. The role involves mold handling with tow motor, curing and inspecting parts, and maintaining documentation for the cell.

Responsibilities

  • Operate compression presses and perform TPM on packing cup cell including oiling and greasing.
  • Mix urethane spray according to SOPs.
  • Operate tow motor to retrieve molds and install in press as required.
  • Cure, inspect, and package parts per SOP.
  • Troubleshoot curing and spraying processes and perform first/last piece inspections.

Job description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS of the job follow. Management may assign other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

  • Operation of compression presses
  • Performs TPM of packing cup cell to include oiling; greasing; entering, scraping and cleaning of booth.
  • Mixes urethane spray according to SOI
  • Operates tow motor, retrieves appropriate mold from racks and installs in press according to SOI
  • Cures, buffs, paints, post cures and inspects and packages parts according to SOI
  • Troubleshoots processes on the curing and spraying stages of job
  • Performs first and last piece inspections
  • Maintains all documentation needed for cell (TPM checklist, inspection documents, and daily chemical usage)
  • Bleeds lines, flushes with toluene, and performs preventive maintenance on spraying equipment
  • Monitors inventory levels of materials, completes requisitions to replenish inventory levels as necessary

Mechanical ability sufficient to troubleshoot equipment and processing problems

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Occasionally bend; stoop; and lift up to 50 lbs. (less than 2 hours/8 hour work day)
  • Frequently stand; walk; talk; hear; use hands and fingers to handle; reach with hands and arms (up to 6-hours/8 hours day)
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Safety shoes, safety glasses and hearing protection are required
  • Exposed to extreme surface temperatures of molds
  • The ambient temperature level can exceed 100 degrees in summer months
  • Exposed to chemicals, not to exceed PELs
  • Astute attention to quality of air in work environment
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The hourly rate for this role is currently $20.26 per hour. The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
