Job summary

West Pharmaceutical Services in Grand Rapids, MI, is seeking a skilled Molding Operator to prepare molds and molding machines for production, perform mold changes, and inspect parts for defects.

You will monitor processes, troubleshoot issues, complete paperwork, and collaborate with engineering to optimize cycle times. The role requires 1–2 years of related experience, a High School diploma or equivalent, and willingness to work overtime on-site to meet production goals.

Qualifications

  • Experience in medical device or regulated industry preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and write reports.
  • Willing to work overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare molds / molding machines for production operation including but not limited to set-up, clean-up, start-up and review parts for defects.
  • Perform or assist with molding press line clearance.
  • Complete process monitoring paperwork as required.
  • Perform and or assist with mold changes on all types of molding presses.
  • Install, remove, deliver, retrieve, transport or molds and other machinery; ensure materials and equipment are at the required location.
  • Troubleshoot, problem solve, relieve operators, adjust within limits and evaluate materials to assure product quality.
  • Use Microsoft Office applications to complete daily tasks.
  • Work with engineering to optimize tasks such as mold cleaning intervals and production times.
  • Initiate & write Tooling Repair Request when pins, bushings, mold, or mold cavity need repair.
  • Assist Engineering and maintenance as requested.Operate overhead crane.
  • Other duties as assigned.

In this role, you will act with minimum supervision to ensure that the molding processes are operating at maximum output while maintaining highest quality.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Associates degree or working toward degree in technical discipline.
  • 5 years related experience and/or training; or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience in medical device industry or other regulated industry.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to work with various computer software programs.
  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Willing to work overtime as needed.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to work assigned shift(s) with overtime as required to complete assignments if necessary.
  • Sitting and/or standing for extended periods may occur as well as getting to and from offices and building sites.
  • If specifically necessitated by customer requirements, must be able to see with or without corrective lenses and distinguish color differences for product and safety issues.
  • Hearing ability should be sufficient to hear and react to audible alarms from distances up to 150 feet.
  • The ability to be able to lift and carry various items up to 50 pounds for manufacturing positions or 30 pounds for administrative positions is required in a fast paced team environment.
