Job summary

Avantor is seeking an Operator to operate distillation and blending equipment and handle chemicals at our Phillipsburg, NJ location. This full-time role on the 3rd shift (Mon-Fri, 11:00pm-7:00am) includes training on 1st shift.

Requires a High School diploma or GED and 1–3 years of manufacturing experience, preferably in chemicals or food/beverage, plus PPE safety adherence. The position requires the ability to lift 50 pounds, basic math, and proficiency with MS Office.

Qualifications

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and work safely with PPE.
  • Familiarity with RCRA and cGMP regulations.
  • Basic computer skills; MS Office preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manufacturing activities following defined procedures to ensure consistent quality.
  • Set up, operate, calibrate, and maintain distillation and blending equipment.
  • Weigh and package chemicals, verify quantities, and inspect finished products.
  • Maintain documentation accurately and complete required records.
  • Follow safety protocols, PPE use, and housekeeping standards.
  • Support team members and communicate any issues to maintain efficiency.

Job description

The Opportunity:

Avantor is looking for an Operator to operate distillation and blending equipment and handle chemicals.


This is a full-time position based out of our Phillipsburg, NJ location.


Work Schedule: 3rd Shift: Monday-Friday, 11:00pm-7:00am with training on 1st shift for the first few months.


What we're looking for:


  • Education: High School completion or equivalent (GED).

  • Experience: 1 - 3 years of related experience in a manufacturing facility, preferably in a chemical plant or food and beverage industry.


Additional Qualifications:


  • Adhere to all safety precautions and PPE (personal protection equipment) requirements while completing the assigned duties in a safe manner.

  • Demonstrated mechanical ability, basic math skills, and familiarity with RCRA and cGMP regulations.

  • Experience in chemical handling, storage, and safety protocols.

  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and problem analysis skills.

  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), preferred.

  • Critical decision-making skills, creativity, multi-tasking ability.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills including the ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.

  • Forklift Experience is a plus.

  • Manages hazardous materials using all appropriate or mandatory safety gear.

  • Completes documentation in a legible manner; verifies and reviews for accuracy.

  • Maintains expected quality and quantity of work.

  • Follows cGMP policies and procedures for handling, storage, packing, manufacturing, and distributing products.

  • Supports co-workers in their job responsibilities and are expected to work as a team player.

  • Good vision required for close‑up and peripheral tasks.

  • Monitors quality of products and raw materials.

  • Communicates with colleagues within manufacturing to exchange information, providing explanations or interpretations as necessary to maintain alignment and efficiency.

  • Ensures compliance with safety protocols, quality standards, and operational guidelines to support seamless manufacturing processes.

Pay Transparency:


  • $39,500.00 - $63,250.00 (pre‑tax pay)

  • Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
