Job summary

Woodgrain Millwork in Fruitland, Idaho seeks a Backrip Operator to grade blocks and place them into the backrip for maximum yield. This full-time hourly role is 3:00 pm–11:00 pm with overtime and occasional Saturdays.

We require a high school diploma or GED, manufacturing experience preferred, and the ability to read digital calipers. You will work safely in a team that values stability and growth at Woodgrain.

Responsibilities

• Grade blocks and orient them for the Backrip to maximize yield.
• Adjust the saw to correct width; changeover between thicknesses.
• Empty saw-dust bags into the hog.
• Perform regular quality checks on width and grade.
• Keep saws in safe, working condition and change blades when needed.
• Trains others to perform Backrip safely and efficiently.
• Assist in other areas as needed.

Starting Salary: $17.00

Job Summary

The Backrip Operator is responsible for grading backrip and placing blocks into the backrip to obtain the highest possible yield.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Grading and orienting blocks prior to running them through the Backrip. Grade blocks for the highest possible yield.
• Adjust the saw to obtain the correct width and quality. Changeover to different thicknesses.
• Empty saw dust bags into the hog.
• Perform quality checks on a regular basis to ensure the proper width and grade are being produced.
• Keep the saws in good working condition. Change saw blades.
• Train others to perform the Backrip Operator position safely and efficiently.
• Assist in other areas as needed.

The employee will routinely be asked to perform the job of Stacker. An anticipated percentage of the week that will be spent performing the role of Stacker varies depending on the shift the Backrip Operator works on. It is expected that on day shift: 15%, swing shift 40%, and graveyard 50% of their time will be spent performing the duties of a Stacker.

• Grade blocks of wood coming off of the line.
• Stack wood on pallets while keeping an accurate piece count.
• Band completed units.
• Communicate with the Tally when units are banded and ready to be tagged.
• Ability to work in and support other departments as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Prior experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
• Ability to communicate clearly and receive direction.
• Ability to handle stress and pressure.
• Ability to learn to read digital calipers.

Physical Demands

The physical demands and work environment are representative of a typical manufacturing environment. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level is moderate to high depending on the area of the mill. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear. Requires close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds and is regularly exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and extreme hot and cold temperatures.

Travel

This position does not require travel to other Woodgrain locations.
