About the Role:
Step into a dynamic leadership role where you’ll plan, coordinate, and oversee the operations of multiple work units, driving key programs to success. You’ll manage and approve budgets, set priorities, and hold your team accountable for outstanding performance. You will lead efforts in waste diversion and material recovery, educating customers on recycling, partnering with vendors, and ensuring materials like wood, metal, and cardboard are recovered and diverted from landfills. What You Will Be Doing:

  1. Develop, plan, organize, implement, and direct annual programs for multiple work units of trades employees.
  2. Guide subordinate supervisors and support staff, recognize outstanding employees, monitor performance, and address issues through coaching or discipline.
  3. Improve work quality, customer service, and employee satisfaction.
  4. Identify staffing needs, delegate responsibilities, conduct performance evaluations, and make hiring and disciplinary decisions.
  5. Ensure management aligns with collective bargaining agreements and is applied fairly across work units.
  6. Participate in Labor/Management Committees, investigate grievances, and resolve HR and payroll issues in collaboration with HR staff.

Qualifications You Bring:

  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience managing subordinate supervisors or leads, setting goals, and resolving personnel issues.
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience across multiple work units in a union environment, including work planning and performance management.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with occupational hazards and safety precautions in relevant industries.
  • Experience working with HR, Payroll, and union representatives, applying union contracts fairly.
  • Proficiency with computer applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, MS Teams) and effective communication skills.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License or ability to travel among sites.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Over 5 years of supervisory experience, including safety, personnel, and program management.
  • Experience in landfill operations, solid waste transportation, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and environmental permits.
  • Experience applying Equity and Social Justice principles.

Working Conditions:

  • Work locations include multiple transfer stations across King County, including Vashon Island, with flexible schedules including weekends and on-call rotations.
  • This position is not overtime eligible.
  • Position involves outdoor work in various weather and environmental conditions.
