GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking an Operations Supervisor in Rantoul, IL. The role oversees site operations and staff, ensuring equipment is in proper working order and safety is prioritized.

You will lead, train, and evaluate personnel to meet service commitments while maintaining professional corporate standards and cost-efficient operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3+ years experience in the waste industry preferred.
• 1+ year supervisory experience.
• SWANA transfer station certification within 60 days of hire (for Transfer Stations).
• Landfill operations require certification in removal of Freon and handling hazardous materials.

Responsibilities

• Sustain and supervise a productive workforce to meet service commitments.
• Adhere to wage and hour laws and compensate personnel per guidelines.
• Ensure safe working conditions at each job site.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and cost.

Ensure employees follow safety guidelines and perform duties in a safe manner. • Maintain necessary records. • Manage inventory of supplies and materials. • Operate equipment as necessary. • Conform in all respects with applicable federal, state/provincial and local laws, regulations, ordinances and other orders and to all company policies, procedures and directives from supervisors. • Perform other job-related duties as assigned. Requirements: • High school diploma or GED. • Three (3) or more years experience in the waste industry desired (landfill or transfer operations preferred). • One (1) year supervisory experience. • Combination of education and/or experience. • For Transfer Stations must possess (within 60 days of hire) a SWANA certified transfer station operator. •For Landfills must have one (1) years of experience operating horizontal baler and bobcat/forklit. Also must successfully complete training for certification in the removal of Freon and handling of hazardous materials (i.e. motor oil, lead-acid batteries, PCB’s, and CFC’s, etc.) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Excellent leadership, communication and management skills. • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, instruction and procedure manuals, routing reports and correspondence. • Ability to satisfactorily perform all duties required. • Ability to regularly lift/move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds. Physical/Mental Demands: • Ability to stand, sit, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, climb, balance, taste and smell. • Visual Requirements: include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. • Ability to regularly lift/move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions: • Work in outdoor environment 70% of the time. • Frequently exposed to loud noise, humidity, hot and cold weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes and airborne particles. • Occasionally work in high precarious places. • Noise level is usually loud.
