Job summary

United States Steel Corporation is seeking a Shift Manager - Operations to lead the operating crew, enforce the safety program, and optimize production performance across rotating shifts. Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years supervising crews
• Experience with rotating shifts including weekends/holidays
• Experience in a union environment or military leadership is a plus

Responsibilities

• Administer the U. S. Steel safety program to ensure a safe work environment.
• Coordinate, organize, and direct activities of the operating crew
• Supervise union employees and work closely with vendors and contractors
• Monitor all steps of the operation to ensure quality and operating guidelines are followed
• Reduce downtime and improve performance of facility equipment
• Develop and implement operating methods to eliminate problems and improve quality
• Plan and direct production activities for products per effective operations and cost factors
• Coordinate material movement and equipment operation to meet customer specs
• Assist workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment
• Devise and implement cost saving strategies
• Schedule crews, complete production reports, conduct safety conversations, and compile reports
• Operate on a 24/7 basis with rotating shifts, weekends and holidays
