Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey, and Westchester County, including emergency, transitional, and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

We are seeking new talent for the following position:

Position: Shift Supervisor/Operations Manager

The Shift Supervisor is responsible for facilitating daily shelter operations at Jamaica Women’s Employment Shelter, a transitional shelter for women who are experiencing homelessness and are employed or deemed employable, referred by the NYC Department of Homeless Services (DHS). Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED preferred, plus one-year relevant experience in a social service setting.
• Good interpersonal skills and basic computer knowledge.
• Security certifications required; Fire Safety (F-80) obtained within 3 months of hire.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Supervise delivery of program services including intake, bed assignments, case management, mail distribution, lockers, meal cards, and medication.
• Ensure optimal customer service to clients.
• Oversee recreation activities.
• Ensure the facility is adequately staffed at all times.
• Coordinate with DHS PD for security and safety of the facility.
• Supervise facility maintenance, cleaning staff, and fire safety.
• Manage community relations and communicate with relevant authorities.
