Job description

Operations Manager – Industrial Construction & Fueling Systems

Fredericksburg, VA | Relocation Offered | $175,000–$225,000 + Performance Bonus

About the Role

We’re seeking a hands‑on, strategic, and execution‑driven Operations Manager to lead all facets of construction, field operations, and business performance for a well‑established industrial contractor specializing in petroleum and fueling system infrastructure. This is a pivotal leadership role reporting directly to ownership.

The Operations Manager will oversee day‑to‑day operations, manage cross‑functional teams, streamline systems, and drive measurable growth. The company has a strong customer base and steady workload year‑round, with projects ranging from fueling system installations and underground tank construction to electrical, piping, and site development work across the Mid‑Atlantic.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead Operations Across the Business: Oversee all construction and petroleum operations, field activities, and administrative functions to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Drive Growth & Strategic Execution: Develop and implement systems, processes, and performance metrics that increase profitability, efficiency, and market share.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Build, coach, and empower teams — from field crews to project managers, ensuring clear accountability, strong communication, and a culture of excellence.
  • Integrate Cultures & Build Alignment: Lead the integration of two operating divisions, fostering collaboration and consistency across teams while preserving core values.
  • Enhance Client & Partner Relationships: Strengthen partnerships with key customers and subcontractors, ensuring the company remains the go‑to choice for major fueling and infrastructure projects.
  • Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement: Streamline project delivery workflows, reduce overhead costs, improve general conditions, and ensure milestone benchmarks are consistently met or exceeded.
  • Business Development Support: Partner with leadership to identify niche markets, diversify service offerings, and support targeted growth initiatives, including alternative energy and equipment distribution.
Who You Are
  • Industry Expert: 5–10+ years in operations leadership within petroleum, fueling, industrial construction, or related infrastructure sectors.
  • Hands‑On Leader: Proven track record managing crews, field operations, and project execution, not just delegating from behind a desk.
  • Builder of Teams & Culture: Experienced in coaching and developing talent, reorganizing teams for success, and fostering a results‑oriented, collaborative culture.
  • Strategic Operator: Comfortable defining operational plans, managing budgets, setting KPIs, and executing against growth objectives.
  • Customer‑Focused: Skilled at strengthening client relationships and delivering best‑in‑class service and value.
  • Growth‑Minded: Ambitious and driven ready to grow with a company positioned to expand revenue by $10M+ in the next five years.
  • Salary: $175,000 – $225,000 base (commensurate with experience)
  • Bonus: Performance‑based bonus up to $50,000 annually
  • Equity: Potential for ownership opportunities after 6–12 months
  • Benefits: Comprehensive health, dental, and vision (50% paid for employees and families), 401(k) with company match, PTO, paid holidays, life & disability insurance
  • Perks: Company vehicle or allowance, leadership development opportunities, long‑term growth path into executive leadership

This is a rare opportunity to step into a leadership role with a company that self‑performs its work, partners directly with top clients in the fueling sector, and is on track to become one of the largest players on the East Coast. If you’re ready to make an impact, lead from the front, and help shape the next chapter of a growing business, we want to hear from you.
