Job description

Description & Requirements

The Center for Therapeutic Genetics (CTG) is a collaborative nonprofit effort, pioneering a new model for rare genetic disease treatment: one that treats developing gene-editing therapies as a process vs. a product. Rather than developing each therapy as its own standalone treatment, CTG builds reusable, platform infrastructure: clinically validated editors, delivery systems, and standardized workflows that can be adapted patient-by-patient, more like a surgical procedure than a manufactured product. By treating these therapies as a process rather than a product and sharing our learnings, this "genetic surgery" model has the potential to extend care to the hundreds of millions of rare disease patients left behind by traditional drug development.

CTG is a tri-institutional effort between the Broad Institute, The Jackson Laboratory's Rare Disease Translational Center (JAX-RDTC) and Boston Children's Hospital (BCH), with the Broad currently serving as the administrative hub. This role would sit as a Broad employee, reporting to the CTG Director, but work closely with colleagues at JAX and BCH to coordinate day-to-day program operations and cross-institutional workflows across CTG's operations.

We are seeking a highly motivated, organized, and proactive Operations Manager to support the operations, logistics, and governance for CTG. In this role you will serve as the crucial link between CTG strategy and day-to-day execution, ensuring that our complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives are successfully coordinated and advanced.

The Operations Manager will work with the CTG Director and staff to enable smooth and efficient execution towards CTG goals, maintain budgets and timelines, support key internal and external alliances, and overall, develop right-sized processes to sustain and scale CTG. This role will also help build the essential infrastructure needed for seamless collaboration across CTG institutions.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated independent judgment, strong workflow management, and the ability to coordinate across multiple teams and institutions. Hands-on scientific experience is not required, but the candidate must have the intellectual versatility to understand therapeutic translation (nonclinical and clinical) in sufficient detail to support CTG's work, paired with the business and operational acumen to advance CTG's sustainability. CTG is in its founding phase; this role will be important in building and setting the foundations of operational excellence.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations & Project Management
  • Provide comprehensive operational and logistical support for the operational systems, workflows, and structures of CTG necessary for executing on CTG's mission and goals, including governance, strategy, communication, finance, and overall operations.
  • Work closely with CTG leadership and partners to maintain and execute against strategic goals and priorities, as well as maintain division of responsibilities and compliance with institutional policy.
  • Manage and track the CTG operations budget, ensuring optimal allocation of resources for internal CTG staff and seconded institutional staff and reporting to fiscal sponsors and partner institutions.
  • Work with scientific project managers and staff to understand scientific programs and their associated milestones, budgets, and timelines to support the Director and Program Leads (Preclinical, Technical, and Clinical) in keeping initiatives on track.
  • Contribute to iterating formal strategic documents, including business plans, executive summaries, and presentation decks, and ensure they are properly organized and accessible to relevant parties.
  • Coordinate logistics, materials, and follow-up for CTG Board of Directors, Council of Partners, and Scientific Advisory Board meetings, ensuring governance-level decisions are documented and communicated to program teams.
  • Partner with the Preclinical, Technical, and Clinical Leads to ensure program-level governance gates (e.g., go/no-go reviews) are scheduled, resourced, and properly escalated to the Governance Committee.
Partnership & Alliance Management
  • Support CTG leadership in refining and maintaining existing infrastructure and governance models with founding partners (JAX-RDTC and BCH) as well as external partnerships and stakeholders.
  • Navigate and manage complex, multi-stakeholder relationships, serving as a highly effective alliance manager, including supporting key operational tri-institutional meetings and administrative working group discussions, following up on action items
  • Act as the primary operational partner to collaborating organizations, demonstrating strong initiative and consistent follow-through.
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify, engage, and onboard new partners and resources.
Financial Oversight & Sponsored Research Coordination
  • Work closely with the Office of Sponsored Research and CTG leadership to maintain financial oversight, including budget development and monitoring, subaward management, sponsor reporting, and effort tracking across CTG's funding sources.
  • Serve as a standing member of the CTG Financial Oversight Committee, working closely with representatives of partner institutions as well as fiscal sponsors to provide support for high-level financial governance matters for CTG.
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications & Ideal Background
  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive experience in project management, alliance management, scientific operations, or a related field. Experience working in multi-institutional partnerships is preferred.
  • Education: A bachelor's degree is required, a master's is preferred. A background in science, medicine, or a related field is highly preferred. Must possess the intellectual versatility to understand and communicate scientific and therapeutic translational ideas.
  • Project Management: Proven track record of managing complex projects, timelines, and budgets.

  • Strategic & Tactical: Ability to balance big-picture strategic thinking with meticulous attention to executional details.
