Job summary

Gerber Childrenswear LLC is seeking an Operations Manager to lead daily warehouse activities across receiving, picking/packing, and shipping. You will manage staffing, space utilization, equipment, and safety programs to deliver exceptional customer service and efficiency.

You will coordinate with traffic, replenishment, inventory, IT, and HR, drive improvements, supervise supervisors, and ensure accurate inventory and data in the WMS.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; master’s degree a plus.
  • 5–7 years of planning and management experience in distribution or supply chain.
  • Experience with warehouse operations and logistics.

Position Summary

The Operations Manager is responsible for directing the daily activities of the warehouse, including labor scheduling, supervision, and proper utilization of space, equipment, and manpower. They are also responsible for improving productivity and efficiencies.

The Operations Manager at JFC will be in charge of one of the following areas: receiving, picking/shipping or pick‑and‑pack, and will rotate among these areas. Key responsibilities include staffing; coordinating warehouse operation; maintaining the facility and equipment; implementing safety, security, and housekeeping programs; and ensuring excellent customer service levels.

The Operations Manager serves as a coordinator between warehouse operations (inbound, picking, order assembly, shipping) and other areas such as traffic, wave planners (USA/SAL), replenishment analysts, inventory, IT, Operations Intradeco, etc. They also act as the Distribution Center Manager, accountable for the safe, efficient, and economical operation of the facility and equipment, and must provide daily/weekly status to Management and follow up on distribution needs.

Internal/External Relations

JFC Operations team (managers, supervisors, leads, operators, etc.), Wave planners/Adm., Planner, Inventory, IT, Inventory analyst/Order processing, Intradeco Operations team, traffic and HR department, vendors (equipment, packing materials, etc.), transportation companies, TMS departments, customer compliance, etc.

Specific Job Functions
Operations

Develop and direct programs to ensure efficient and cost‑effective operation and utilization of the facility. Depending on the warehouse area assigned, plan and schedule distribution services including receiving, storing, order picking, order preparation, shipping, handling returned/damaged goods, maintenance, and administrative activities to meet customer service standards.

Plan long‑range labor needs based on forecasts and input from planner and senior management. Recommend and implement improvements to operations.

Communications

Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly warehouse meetings with supervisors and all employees. Work with senior management to set short‑ and long‑term goals and objectives.

Coordinate with traffic, account management, replenishment analysts, inventory control, order processing/wave planners, and human resources to ensure consistency of execution and meet customer service and productivity standards.

Layout

Ensure 100% execution in the use of the WMS system to maintain data integrity for planning and inventory management.

Labor Management

Direct operations of distribution center supervisory personnel to achieve productivity standards. Implement new initiatives, process improvements, automation.

Collaborate with senior management and HR to develop a productive work team, plan temporary manpower schedules, hire qualified personnel, and train for job tasks.

Use effective communication and motivational techniques to supervise, counsel, and discipline subordinates. Implement performance evaluation for promotions, wage increases, and terminations.

Equipment

Ensure efficient operation and utilization of all warehouse equipment. Monitor cleanliness and functionality; oversee adjustments and repairs as necessary.

Adjust quantity and type of equipment to meet business needs and minimize costs. Collaborate with Maintenance Technician to develop and implement equipment and facility maintenance program.

Safety

Develop, implement, and direct safety programs for personnel, equipment, and property. Provide safety instruction formally and informally.

Report work‑related injuries to senior management and HR immediately, and provide medical treatment as necessary.

Ensure compliance with OSHA, MSDS, and local regulations in all safety and fire prevention areas.

Housekeeping

Implement programs to keep tools and equipment in designated areas; schedule equipment cleaning; organize product storage; salvage or dispose of damaged freight within 48 hours; supervise cleaning of restrooms and break rooms; maintain pest control and compliance with regulations; enforce “clean as you go” program.

Inventory Management, Accuracy and Compliance

Maintain current and accurate inventory control of each product line. Follow WMS procedures, track accuracy performance indicators such as aging of pallets or pallets left behind.

Monitor label placement and cube utilization of customer trucks. Provide feedback to senior management, supervisors, and employees on accuracy. Hold staff accountable for accuracy standards.

Reporting

Prepare accurate and timely reports regarding warehouse operations (end‑of‑day reports, shift reports for receiving, picking, shipping, priorities, etc.).

Availability

Be available to answer questions, evaluate operations, housekeeping, safety, and solve problems. Lead by example, move at a brisk pace, practice cleanup of debris. Must be available to work past regular scheduled times, overtime, weekend, and/or holidays if required.

Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree preferred, master’s degree a plus. 5–7 years of experience in planning and management position in distribution or supply chain.

WMS (Manhattan is a plus), ERP (SAP or JBA is a plus). Warehouse, distribution and logistics knowledge.
