Job summary

Groundsmith, LLC is seeking an experienced Operations Manager for the Commercial Landscape Maintenance division in North Carolina. The role leads field operations, develops managers and crews, and drives profitability while delivering exceptional customer service and safety compliance.

The candidate will manage budgets, quantify labor productivity, and oversee reporting on KPIs. A minimum of three years in leadership within commercial landscape is required, with a strong emphasis on process

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience in commercial landscape operations.
  • Experience managing a department, division, or operational team with profit-and-loss responsibility.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all daily operations of the commercial landscape maintenance division.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop managers, supervisors, crew leaders, and field personnel.
  • Ensure work is properly scheduled, staffed, routed, and completed according to company quality standards.
  • Monitor production, labor budgets, efficiency, and operational performance.
  • Conduct regular property inspections and quality audits.
  • Develop and improve operational systems, processes, and accountability.
  • Coordinate maintenance operations with irrigation, enhancements, fleet, sales, and administration.
  • Lead snow and ice operations, including planning and customer communication.
  • Promote professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage the division’s profit and loss performance.
  • Develop and oversee annual operating budgets.
  • Monitor revenue, gross margins, labor, overtime, equipment, materials, and expenses.
  • Prepare operational and financial reports for leadership.

Operations Manager – Commercial Landscape Maintenance

The Operations Manager is responsible for leading the Commercial Landscape Maintenance Division while ensuring exceptional customer service, operational excellence, employee development, safety, and profitability. This role provides strategic and day-to-day leadership for field operations, develops managers and crews, improves operational systems, and is accountable for achieving the division's financial and operational goals.

Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership
  • Lead all daily operations of the commercial landscape maintenance division.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop managers, supervisors, crew leaders, and field personnel.
  • Ensure work is properly scheduled, staffed, routed, and completed according to company quality standards.
  • Monitor production, labor budgets, efficiency, and operational performance.
  • Conduct regular property inspections and quality audits.
  • Develop and improve operational systems, processes, and accountability.
  • Coordinate maintenance operations with irrigation, enhancements, fleet, sales, and administration.
  • Lead snow and ice operations, including planning, resource deployment, on-site leadership, and customer communication.

  • Manage the division's profit and loss performance.

  • Monitor revenue, gross margins, labor, overtime, equipment, materials, and operating expenses.
  • Analyze operational KPIs to improve profitability and efficiency.
  • Manage job costing, labor productivity, and staffing forecasts.
  • Prepare operational and financial reports for company leadership.
Leadership & Employee Development
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, coach, and develop employees.
  • Conduct performance reviews and ongoing coaching sessions.
  • Build future leaders through mentoring and professional development.
  • Foster a culture built on accountability, respect, safety, and teamwork.
  • Address performance concerns promptly while recognizing outstanding performance.
Customer Experience
  • Ensure all properties are maintained according to contract specifications and quality standards.
  • Participate in customer meetings and property inspections.
  • Resolve escalated customer concerns professionally and promptly.
  • Support customer retention through exceptional service delivery.
Safety & Compliance
  • Promote and maintain a safety-first culture.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and company safety standards.
  • Oversee accident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with fleet management to maximize equipment uptime.
  • Ensure employees receive proper safety and equipment training.
Ideal Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience in commercial landscape operations.
  • Proven success leading high-performing teams in a service-based environment.
  • Experience managing a department, division, branch, or operational team with profit-and-loss responsibility.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), Google Workspace, and cloud-based business software.
  • Ability to thrive in a structured, process-driven environment.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions as required.
  • Experience using LMN Landscape Management Software.
  • Annual salary: $70,000–$80,000, based on experience and qualifications.

Physical Requirements
