Job summary

CPS, Inc. is seeking an Operations Manager to lead the production department in a cost-effective and safe operation. The role involves directing and coordinating all manufacturing activities to meet company goals and regulatory requirements.

You will partner with plant leadership to implement plans that optimize materials, labor and equipment, manage budgets, and drive continuous improvement through KPI tracking and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

  • BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering preferred with chemical industry experience.
  • Minimum 5 years manufacturing experience; 2–3 years direct leadership/management of plant personnel.
  • Strong KPI understanding and results delivery.
  • Experience in developing forecasts and operating budgets.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and direct the Manufacturing department.
  • Direct production activities and set production priorities for cost-effective operations.
  • Coordinate daily, weekly, and monthly Production activities with Supervisors.
  • Collaborate with functional leaders to optimize materials, labor and equipment.
  • Organize shutdowns/startups for maintenance purposes.
  • Achieve departmental objectives within time, cost, and quality parameters.
  • Ensure staff safety and compliance with company safety policies and training.
  • Develop and deliver cost savings plans to meet annual targets.
  • Provide performance management support for direct reports.
  • Ensure cross-training and adequate training coverage for the department.

Job description

The Operations Manager leads the production department and their efforts in the safe and cost-effective operation. Responsible for facilitating, directing and controlling, as appropriate, all aspects of the production operation to ensure achievement of company goals and objectives. Ensure that the plant is operating in compliance with all regulatory and company policies, procedures, and regulations.

Duties
  • Plan, organize and direct the Manufacturing department
  • Plan, direct production activities & establish production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors
  • In conjunction with Production Supervisors, coordinate and supervise the daily, weekly, and monthly activities of Production
  • Work with other functional leaders (internal to plant and corporate) to develop & implement plans to efficiently use materials, labor & equipment to meet production targets
  • Organize/facilitate production shutdown/start-up for maintenance purposes
  • Achieve project or departmental objectives within agreed time, cost, & quality parameters
  • Along with Safety Rep for the plant and Corporate Safety Director, responsible for the safe operation of the production area ensuring the staff is properly trained on the company\'s safety policies, practices, and procedures
  • Identify/resolve safety concerns or issues, including accident/incident reporting, investigation and resolution
  • Ensure that manufacturing team members are properly trained, responsible for their safety, the safety of their team members and the quality of our production
  • Develop & deliver Manufacturing Cost Savings plans to achieve annual savings goals
  • Provide full cycle performance management support for direct reports
  • Ensure Production Dept has the appropriate training and coverage. Update training schedule/program to cross train employees
Requirements
  • B.S. Chemical or Mechanical Engineering preferred with experience in the chemical industry
  • Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience ideally with 2-3 years of direct leadership/management of plant personnel
  • Strong understanding of KPI’s and delivering results
  • Experience in developing and planning forecast and execute operating budgets
  • Results driven leader
  • Strategic thinker, planner, able to drive continuous improvement and achieve results
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational, motivational, and communication skills which can be demonstrated in an everyday work environment
  • Possess high professional ethics, dependability, good judgment and ability to take decisive action
  • Proficiency in use of personal computers including MS Outlook, Excel (pivot tables, formula, conditional formatting etc), & Word
  • Six Sigma or Lean manufacturing experience ideal
