Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Raleigh, NC seeks an Operations Manager to lead manufacturing and distribution teams, drive efficiency, and improve OEE using Six Sigma and CI initiatives. The role reports to the General Manager and requires strong leadership across shifts.

Responsibilities include staffing optimization, collaborating with maintenance on preventive programs, budget management, and ensuring GMP compliance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 5–10 years of experience in pharmaceutical printing or manufacturing.
  • Detailed knowledge of the finishing process.
  • ISO and GMP experience preferred.
  • Understanding of core processes integration is important.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to mentor across shifts.
  • Proficient computer knowledge including Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Set priorities to efficiently operate all departmental activities.
  • Assess process needs to determine staffing for production goals.
  • Collaborate with maintenance to support production goals and CMMS improvements.
  • Establish and maintain operational budget within guidelines.
  • Evaluate current operations and implement improvements to boost OEE.
  • Provide resource feedback to the General Manager to support process goals.
  • Promote teamwork across all levels of the company.
  • Ensure GMP compliance across all departments.
  • Back-up responsibilities: Plant Manager may back-up General Manager and some Department Manager roles.

Operations Manager - Raleigh, NC

The Opportunity:

The Operations Manager provides leadership and guidance with the ability to influence a positive change within manufacturing and distribution departments within the facility. The Operations Manager must be able to manage different levels of experience and provide improvement regardless of tenure. The Operations Manager must be able to analyze data to determine root causes of efficiency deficits and drive change throughout all operations to improve OEE utilizing Six Sigma methodology and Continuous Process Improvement initiatives. This position reports directly to the General Manager.

How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock:
  • Establishes priorities designed to effectively and efficiently operate all departmental activities.
  • Evaluates the needs of all processes on an ongoing basis to determine optimal staffing levels required to accomplish production goals and metrics.
  • Works with maintenance to establish and maintain an effective preventative maintenance program to adequately support the production goals and process design.
  • Establishes and maintains operational budget within established guidelines.
  • Evaluates current operations and implements improvements within the operations.
  • Provides feedback to the General Manager with regard to resource needs to support the goals of all processes.
  • Provides other assistance to the General Manager as requested.
  • Works proactively to promote teamwork at all levels of the company.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, safety rules, security procedures and instructions.
  • Perform all duties according to established safety policy, including wearing all PPEs to perform duties.
  • Willing to work flexible hours as needed.
  • Ensure GMP compliance across all departments.
  • Back-up responsibilities: The Plant Manager serves as back-up to the General Manager and some Department Manager roles if needed.
What You Need to Succeed:
  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent G.E.D.
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in a pharmaceutical printing or manufacturing environment, and/or equivalent training or an appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of the finishing process is required.
  • ISO and GMP experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of integration with other core processes is critical.
  • Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills are required to work effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge and understanding of company initiatives and processes that involve or may impact operations are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively motivate and lead a team of individuals.
  • Ability to serve as a mentor by participating in the operations related to all shifts.
  • Proficient computer knowledge including Microsoft Office.
