Job summary

EthosEnergy is recruiting for an Operations & Maintenance Technician (OMT) at Cherokee County Cogeneration, a 1 x 1 combined cycle facility in Gaffney, SC. The OMT will operate and maintain the power plant, working a 12-hour rotating shift under the O&M Manager and Lead Technician.

Responsibilities include using Maximo for maintenance work orders, monitoring system parameters, and assisting with water chemistry and plant safety procedures.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Two to four years related experience and/or training preferred.
• Ability to operate safely in a power plant environment.
• Read and interpret mechanical/electrical drawings and manuals.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the operation and maintenance of the Cherokee County Cogeneration facility.
• Operate and document equipment performance, notify supervisor of anomalies.
• Use Maximo CMMS for work orders, data entry, and parts tracking.
• Monitor plant conditions, perform routine inspections, and support water chemistry control.

Job description

EthosEnergy is recruiting for an Operations & Maintenance Technician (OMT) at Cherokee County Cogeneration, a 1 x 1 combined cycle facility location in Gaffney, SC. The site consists of (1) GE 6FA.01 Combustion Turbine Generator Set with HRSG, (1) GE Steam Turbine Generator Set, and associated balance of plant equipment. The successful candidate in the role will be assigned to a 12hr rotating shift and responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of the power generation facility. This position works under the direction of the O&M Manager and Lead Operations & Maintenance Technician (LOMT’s).

Job Responsibilities

• Duties and responsibilities will be assigned by the Facility Management as needed, including but not limited to the following:
• Supports the LOMT in the proper operation of the combined cycle generating facility with minimal guidance or assistance. Competently operates and maintains all plant equipment. Communicates plant issues and keeps LOMT fully informed of plant operations, unusual conditions, and faulty equipment.
• Will demonstrate effective use of a computerized maintenance management system (Maximo) by displaying a proficiency in using the system, entering data consistent with fellow employees and dedication to the facility maintenance philosophy. Thoroughly records equipment problems on Maximo work requests and documents maintenance actions taken on work order forms. Handles corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance work orders in a timely and high-quality manner. Shows diligence in documenting spare parts usage and re-ordering.
• Reads meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as temperature of equipment, vibration of equipment, hours of operation, pressure, and fluid levels to verify operating conditions. Visually inspects and listens to equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication.
• Provides detailed status of plant conditions to fellow OMT’s at shift turnover.
• Perform water chemistry analysis on HRSG, and cooling tower systems. Ensure water chemistry is within proper control ranges. Adjusts water chemistry, as needed, by controlling chemical feed and/or blowdown rates. Work with LOMT’s and water treatment vendor to properly monitor overall chemistry program.
• Operate demineralized water system in accordance with OEM and plant procedures and monitor demineralized water to ensure quality is within acceptable limits.
• Maintains equipment by tightening fittings, replacing valve packing, gaskets, valves, gauges, etc. and cleaning, replacing, oiling, and lubricating other component parts and equipment as required.
• Diagnoses equipment malfunction or failure of operational equipment. Repair, replace, dismantle, and examine defective parts along with lubricating and cleaning parts.
• Uses facility operating procedures and equipment technical manuals to operate, maintain and repair facility equipment and ensure equipment is operated within acceptable parameters. Assist in troubleshooting and inspecting programmable logic controllers, plant control systems and distributive control systems including control card replacement and wiring terminations.
• Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, technical manuals, and P&ID's.
• Work shift hours, overtime, and irregular hours as needed to support reliable operation of the facility. From time to time the working hours will be determined on short notice based on plant requirements.
• Performs general housekeeping and continuous improvement of the appearance of the facility including painting projects as required. Maintains the cleanliness of all areas of the plant and control room.
• Reads, understands, and complies with all regulatory and facility safety procedures.
• May be required to operate a forklift and similar heavy equipment.
• Actively participates as a highly valued member of the organization in a team environment.

Required Skills / Knowledge

• The successful candidate will possess and demonstrate competence in one or more of the following maintenance skills: Instrumentation, Controls, Electrician, Mechanical Maintenance.
• Demonstrates the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations.
• Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.

Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent required.

Physical Requirements

• The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Must be physically capable of ascending and descending structural stairways and portable ladders.
