Job summary

Talen Energy seeks an O&M Technician/Trainee for the Darby Generating Station in Mt. Sterling, OH. The site operates six combustion turbine generators with ~475–480 MW capacity and requires candidates with vocational training or mechanical experience.

Responsibilities

• Monitor plant systems, respond to alarms, and take corrective actions for abnormal conditions
• Communicate with dispatch to confirm unit status and adjust output as required
• Inspect, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair electrical, instrumentation, and control systems using schematics and test equipment
• Perform mechanical maintenance and assist with predictive and preventive maintenance activities
• Utilize work management systems for work orders and material requests
• Direct and assist contractors and team members; conduct job safety analyses and follow established safety protocols
• Respond to emergencies, maintain plant security, and stay proficient in firefighting, first aid, and CPR

Talen Energy is looking for candidates to fill opening for Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Technician/Trainee. This position would be located at the Talen Energy Darby facility in Mt. Sterling, Ohio. We are looking for qualified candidates with a minimum of having vocational training and/or mechanical experience and prefer candidates with 2-4 years of power plant experience. Darby Generating Station is a 6-unit, natural gas-fired peaking power plant located near Mount Sterling, Ohio. The facility consists of six combustion turbine generators with approximately 475-480 MW of generating capacity, providing reliable power to the PJM regional transmission grid during periods of peak electricity demand. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate and control Combustion Turbines and balance-of-plant equipment, including startup, synchronization, and shutdown procedures.
• Monitor plant systems, respond to alarms, and take corrective actions for abnormal conditions.
• Communicate with dispatch to confirm unit status and adjust output as required.
• Inspect, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair electrical, instrumentation, and control systems using schematics and test equipment.
• Perform mechanical maintenance and assist with predictive and preventive maintenance activities.
• Utilize work management systems for work orders and material requests.
• Direct and assist contractors and team members; conduct job safety analyses and follow established safety protocols.
• Initiate clearance permits and ensure proper isolation of plant equipment per site procedures.
• Respond to emergencies, maintain plant security, and stay proficient in firefighting, first aid, and CPR.
• Participate in safety, environmental, and technical training; mentor and share knowledge with peers.
• Uphold ethical behavior, environmental stewardship, and compliance with all safety and regulatory standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Must relocate/live within 30 minutes of the Darby Power, LLC facility.

Qualifications and Skills

• High School diploma or GED required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a Simple Cycle or Combined Cycle power plant.
• Strong knowledge of Combustion Turbine operations and balance-of-plant equipment.
• Experience with GE MKV or Emerson Ovation control systems.

Physical Requirements

• All plant employees are expected to work safely at all times.
• Working at the power plant may involve:
• Exposure to varied outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions, high noise levels, hazardous areas, and diverse work surfaces.
• Frequent use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high-voltage protective gear.
• Working near high-voltage equipment and operating heavy machinery, with proper training and safety protocols.
• Entry into confined spaces and potentially hazardous environments, often accompanied by exposure to loud machinery and equipment.
• Physical activities including walking, standing for extended periods, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders/stairs, operating large valves, and performing tasks requiring up to 50 lbs. of pulling, turning, lifting, or carrying.
• Exposure to extreme heat and cold.
• Participation in a post-offer physical examination and drug screening, as well as ongoing random drug testing.
• Compliance with strict smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business. Candidates should be comfortable operating a vehicle as part of their job responsibilities and must meet any applicable company and insurance requirements.
