Job summary

St. Louis Composting is seeking a Food Waste Collection Manager in St. Louis, MO to plan, direct, and optimize daily collection operations.

You will lead drivers, design efficient routes, monitor performance, and ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and cost-effective service delivery. The role requires strong leadership, logistics management, customer service, and financial oversight, with experience in fleet operations and knowledge of fleet management software.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of transportation, logistics, waste management, recycling, or fleet operations experience.
• Three or more years of supervisory or management experience.
• Experience managing employees in a fast-paced operational environment.
• Knowledge of fleet management software.
• Strong computer proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Direct all daily collection activities for commercial food waste routes.
• Develop, assign, and adjust collection routes to maximize productivity and minimize travel time.
• Coordinate daily dispatch activities and respond to service disruptions.
• Monitor route completion using GPS and route management software.
• Implement contingency plans for vehicle breakdowns, staffing shortages, weather events, and emergencies.
• Design efficient collection routes using route optimization software.
• Balance workloads among drivers and optimize vehicle utilization.
• Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard drivers; conduct performance evaluations.
• Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules; ensure vehicle inspections.
• Investigate accidents and incidents; implement corrective actions.
• Coordinate with composting facilities and monitor contamination rates.
• Resolve customer complaints and coordinate special pickups.
• Review vendor invoices and analyze operational costs.
