Job summary

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking an Operations Manager for the Detector Microfabrication Facility (DMF) in the Fundamental Physics Directorate. The role directs the DMF cleanroom operations and oversees tools, metrology, and related systems to enable superconducting microelectronics fabrication for SLAC’s scientific mission.

You will lead the DMF team, coordinate safety and quality, and partner with SLAC leadership to plan and optimize resources, training, and user support.

Responsibilities

• Manage the DMF and associated external facilities, including the cleanroom, tool suite, and metrology lab.
• Support the scientific user base in optimizing device fabrication while maintaining core process stability and purity.
• Assist SLAC leadership with strategic and financial planning for the DMF.
• Schedule and coordinate all work in the DMF.
• Manage online portals for tool status and logging of tool usage and operator hours.
• Hire and manage the DMF core team and collaborate with the Scientific Direction to build a device science team.
• Embed SLAC values and safety into the DMF team's work and culture.
• Coordinate with SLAC ESH and external resources to ensure compliance and safety standards.
• Develop and implement training and qualifications for staff and users to access the DMF facility.
• Plan tool acceptance, startup procedures, and SOPs for deposition, etching, lithography, and metrology tools.
• Oversee maintenance contracts and preventative maintenance for DMF tools and subsystems.
