Job summary

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking a Tool Engineer for the Detector Microfabrication Facility (DMF) in the Fundamental Physics Directorate. The role focuses on operating, maintaining, and repairing the tool suite to enable superconducting microelectronics fabrication across lithography, deposition, etch, and metrology tools.

You will work in an ISO-5 cleanroom environment, report to the DMF Operations Manager, and contribute to process improvements, documentation, and safety

Qualifications

• Extensive experience stewarding microelectronics fabrication equipment including lithography, deposition and etch tools.
• Experience with cleanroom operations and quality, safety, and customer service.
• Ability to work in a collaborative team and represent SLAC professionally.

Responsibilities

• Oversight of operation, maintenance, and repair of fabrication and metrology tools.
• Re-qualify tools after maintenance or hardware changes.
• Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions with root-cause analysis.
• Develop calibration protocols and maintain calibration records.
• Improve hardware reliability while maintaining safe operation.
