Job summary

University of California, Berkeley is recruiting an Operations Manager (4800) for the Berkeley Institute for Data Science (BIDS). This role oversees administrative services across finance, HR, facilities, and IT, and guides short- and long-range planning to advance BIDS’ mission.

You will supervise staff, manage vendor relations, and support campus partnerships. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of university administrative practices, strong communication skills, and experience coordinating

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of University rules, processes, and procedures for budget, accounting and fund management, and personnel management.
• Interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, and advising.
• Experience with events, fundraising processes, risk management, website basics, accounting, payroll, and contracts & grants guidelines.
• Familiarity with common University-specific computer applications.
• Ability to handle discretion and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Manages and administers a broad range of administrative operations including PO setup, travel bookings, reimbursements, and vendor payments.
• Coordinates HR activities, assists with classification, onboarding/offboarding, and reviews resumes and interview processes.
• Assists in designing website content and drafts newsletters and communications for the BIDS community.
• Oversees facilities and space logistics including equipment needs, ergonomic tools, and access control.
• Supervises a small staff, sets tasks, tracks progress, and provides feedback.
• Supports leadership in strategic initiatives and external partnerships across campus and UC system.
