Job summary

CVE North America is seeking an Operations Engineer to monitor and optimize the O&M of solar and storage assets, reporting to the Operations Manager. This role focuses on safe, sustainable, and optimized asset performance within a hybrid work setup.

You will collaborate with the CVE NA Technical Team, coordinate with landowners and authorities, manage contractors, and analyze KPIs to drive asset reliability and efficiency, with travel and occasional evenings required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical discipline.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in O&M of solar or energy storage assets.
  • Experience with PowerBI or similar data visualization tools; proficient in Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and monitor daily O&M activities for CVE NA solar and storage assets.
  • Track performance metrics and KPIs; analyze data to optimize asset availability and reliability.
  • Supervise contractors and manage maintenance tasks; ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Support commissioning, repowering, and data acquisition system testing.
  • Maintain safety, quality, and environmental standards; ensure regulatory compliance.

Job description

Reporting to CVE NA's Operations Manager, and with the support of the CVE, NA Technical Team, the Operations Engineer will assist in coordinating, monitoring, and analyzing all operations and maintenance (O&M) of CVE, NA's ground mounted solar power generation assets which average 5 megawatts in size. This role will ensure that solar and battery storage assets are maintained in a safe, sustainable, and optimized manner.

Duties and responsibilities notably include but are not limited to
  • Travel: Regular travel within the Northeast region and other regions as business needs evolve
  • Flexible Work Eligible: Hybrid Eligible - As per CVE's work Flex policy
  • Evening Work Hours: Required - contingent on operational needs during weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
  • Experience: 3 Years (minimum)
Asset Management
  • Track and optimize the Asset Operations Budget
  • Manage external and intercompany contracts and their associated commitments
  • Represent the company with landowners, investors, and local authorities (AHJs), including utility dispatch, police and fire departments, and regulatory agencies
  • Insurance claims management
Monitoring/Supervision
  • Perform all daily monitoring and supervision of performance of the solar and storage assets
  • Maximize asset availability and ensure reliable communication
  • Maximize asset performance and identify and implement performance plans. This includes quantifying and mitigating system losses (tracker failures, snow, shading, and soiling losses)
  • Receive and respond to system alarms, troubleshoot and dispatch support personnel as required
  • Enter and track ticketing for system downtime, underperformance, and losses
  • Complete daily, weekly, monthly, and annual internal and external reporting of operational performance and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Ensure quality and reliability of data acquisition
  • Incident reporting and tracking
Maintenance
  • Supervise, schedule, and manage contractors in charge of the maintenance for PV and battery energy storage systems
  • Identify, consult, and deploy a strong network of maintenance providers
  • Optimize preventive and corrective maintenance tasks to ensure quality, efficiency, and cost savings
  • Confirm services rendered by all contractors, utilities, and other external service providers comply with all contractual obligations
  • Administer equipment warranties, open claims and RMAs when necessary.
  • Track and optimize OPEX and production budgets (P50 tuning)
Commissioning and Repowering
  • Provide support to CVE Construction and Engineering Teams during start-up and commissioning services
  • Onboard new assets to CVE monitoring platform
  • Lead contractors in testing and troubleshooting of communications and data acquisition systems before final hand-over
  • Validate that all commissioning procedures and activities are followed and completed
  • Provide technical training to AHJ (police, fire department) as needed
  • Support CVE NA's Engineering team with repowering efforts on aging assets
Security, Quality, and Environment commitment
  • Monitor and control access to all operating assets
  • Ensure compliance with all NEC, OSHA, UL, IEEE, and other industry standards
  • Enforce and promote CVE's Health and Safety policies
  • Enforce and update cyber security standards and procedures on all control and monitoring systems
  • Ensure the full deployment of ISO 9001 and 14001 certification processes
Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical discipline with at least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in solar and/or battery energy storage systems (BESS)
  • Experience with PowerBI, or similar data visualization software, and proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record for at least two years
  • Ability to work during weekends, holidays, and evening hours including weekdays, Weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to travel to project sites and work in the field, some overnight and weekend travel to be expected (approximately 10-25%) Passion for workplace safety and a self-starter, pushing for innovation, embracing and seeking out new technologies, equipment, and best practices
  • Pro-active, liking to fix things, and know how to get work done
  • A team player who values strong company culture
  • Conviction that renewable energy will play a major role in the future and you are an advocate of the transition to clean energy
  • Background check is required prior to the contract signature
Preferred skills include:
  • Data monitoring, analysis, and reporting
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, communication protocols, and IT architecture
  • Proficiency programming in various languages including Python, Java, C++, PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) troubleshooting and programming experience
  • Working knowledge of network/communication technology and any related certifications (CCNA or similar equivalent)
