Job summary

NovaSource Power Services is seeking a maintenance-focused technician to support utility-scale PV power plants. You will monitor plant operations via SCADA, commission and test equipment, and perform preventative and corrective maintenance on PV inverters, transformers, switchgear and metering systems.

Required are 3+ years in utility solar operations & maintenance, strong electrical knowledge, and the ability to work independently on-site.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge in electrical safety and arc flash standards.
  • Following operating, switching, maintenance, safety and environmental procedures.
  • Strong safety background with Lockout Tag Out and Job Hazard Analysis.
  • Working knowledge of industrial or power facility operation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of local and national electrical codes.
  • Proficiency reading electrical schematics and prints.
  • Proficiency with medium & high voltage switching.
  • Experience testing and troubleshooting MV/HV equipment.
  • Ability to retrieve relay files and documentation.
  • CMMS for maintenance tracking.
  • Microsoft Office in Windows environment.
  • English communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • NovaSource Technician Qualification Standards within 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Perform to quarterly key performance indicators, such as actual versus expected energy generation, on-time planned maintenance, and support overall plant and equipment efficiency.
  • Ensure a safe work environment by promoting strict adherence to company protocols.
  • Responsible for personal safety, quality and schedule adherence.
  • Perform and document training on and ensure compliance to Job Hazard Analysis, Pre-Job Brief and Lock-Out-Tag-Out procedures.
  • Responsible for a variety of PM work including measuring, reading, testing and performing maintenance procedures on all site components.
  • Train personnel in safety, environmental and procedural requirements.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate on-site project planning, installations, commissioning, quality inspections, and performance testing.
  • Write and enforce work and equipment testing instructions and procedures, including normal and maintenance operating procedures.
  • Ensure work orders are complete in their entirety.
  • Prepare documents necessary for procurement and utilization of materials and vendor services.
  • Ensure all documentation and required reports are reviewed, complete, submitted and filed.
  • Attend, participate in and pass all assigned training in safety, environmental and other areas as assigned.
  • Maintain work area and site housecleaning to 5S standards.
  • Verify SCADA site configuration.
  • Adhere to Company vehicle maintenance standards and safety standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Will report to most senior site manager or supervisor depending on site organizational structure.
  • Will lead work groups and supervise plant evolutions.
  • Travel will be required depending on the needs of the Company.

Basic Job Functions

Responsible for assigned aspects of the maintenance and operation of utility scale PV power plant. Duties include monitoring PV Plant operation through SCADA, commissioning, testing, inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying AC and DC solar PV systems, including inverters, PV module arrays, transformers, switchgear, and metering systems.

Experience
  • 3+ years of experience in Utility Solar Operations & Maintenance.
  • Experience in operating and maintaining power plant electrical systems, SCADA and controls systems operation, troubleshooting advanced electrical components, and using procedures to perform equipment preventative and corrective maintenance preferred.
  • Prior Supervisory experience a plus.
Education
  • Electrical certifications, state, journeyman, etc..
  • College or technical degree preferred.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Equivalent training in military, utility, or power industry a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • Bending, kneeling, twisting, the ability to lift up to 70 pounds, the ability to climb ladders, and wear PPE for extended periods of time. Ability to work in high and low temperatures, sun exposure, and navigate on uneven ground on foot.
  • Ability to differentiate between different colors to manage color-coded wiring.
  • Good hand-eye coordination.
Required Skills/Competencies
  • Demonstrated knowledge in electrical safety and arc flash standards.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to follow operating, switching, maintenance, safety and environmental procedures.
  • Must have a strong safety background with experience in Lockout Tag Out and Job Hazard Analysis.
  • Working knowledge of industrial or power facility operation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of local and national electrical codes.

  • Proficient at medium & high voltage switching.
  • Experience testing and troubleshooting medium voltage and high voltage equipment, including transformers, potential transformers, current transformers, breakers, relays, contactors, motors and inverters.

  • Fully fluent in utilizing a CMMS system for maintenance tracking.
  • Proven computer skills in a Windows environment (Microsoft Office Products) is required.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to communicate in English both verbally and written.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
  • Ability to work independently with little to no direction within company compliance and work processes.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to complete NovaSource Technician Qualification Standards successfully within 90 days of hire.
