Job summary

PITT OHIO is seeking an Operations Business Specialist at our Pittsburgh, PA location. This role supports terminal personnel, travels to network terminals, and collaborates with IT and operations teams to implement technology-based improvements.

The ideal candidate has an associate degree or equivalent experience, 5+ years in transportation, and strong analytical skills. Excellent communication and MS Office proficiency are required. Flexible hours and travel up to 50% are expected.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent work experience in LTL Operations, Logistics, or Business Management.
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in the Transportation field - preferably LTL.
  • Strong understanding of business processes relating to Operations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Previous business software testing experience is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Outstanding time management and organizational skills to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software products.
  • Persuasive presentation skills.
  • Travel up to 50% is required.
  • Hours of work must be flexible, including weekends and evenings.

Responsibilities

  • Support terminal personnel when issues arise.
  • Travel to terminals in the network to fill in when required and/or train new hires on SOPs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure technology-based solutions are implemented and corporate wide improvements are realized.
  • Ensure that newly developed solutions or enhanced applications are thoroughly tested, documented, and feedback is provided to IT and partnering Companies.
  • Train and mentor staff on new process changes and technology-based initiatives.
  • Develop strategies and plans to assure sustainability of improvements.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation to support process improvement.
  • Monitor and report progress on projects and performance to senior management.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to organizational processes and methods.
  • Remain flexible to additional responsibilities as required; react to change effectively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities


  • Support terminal personnel when issues arise

Other Duties


  • Assist with various IT&S/Operations projects as needed

  • Travel to terminals in the network to observe operations and recommend improvements

  • Collect and review PowerBI KPI reports to support project initiatives

  • Support the other Team members in the department


Qualifications


  • Associate degree or equivalent work experience in LTL Operations, Logistics, or Business Management

  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in the Transportation field - preferably LTL

  • Must possess a strong understanding of business processes relating to Operations

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements


  • Candidates must be able to efficiently communicate, observe operations facilities and activities, and learn our business from the \"trenches\".

  • Sedentary work - exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of forces frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are only required occasionally.

  • Close visual acuity is required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing computer terminal, and extensive reading.

  • Typical exposure to interior environmental conditions like air conditioning and dust; no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

  • Manual dexterity is regularly required including fingering, grasping, and typing; manual dexterity includes repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and fingers.

  • Talking and hearing required to communication with and listen to others to share or receive information. Occasionally exposed to noise including telephone, office machinery, and conversations of others.
