Job summary

Carnegie Mellon University’s Investment Office is seeking an Operations Associate, responsible for managing critical processes and financial reporting related to the endowment. The role includes onboarding new investment managers, coordinating requests, and preparing portfolio analytics.

Operations Associate – Investment Operations, Risk, and Analytics

Carnegie Mellon University’s Investment Office is seeking an Operations Associate to manage critical process, control, and recording responsibilities for endowment financial reporting and analytics.

Responsibilities
  • Onboard new external investment managers by managing documentation and processes.
  • Monitor investment manager requests and coordinate with the responsible investment team members.
  • Review quarterly valuations and transactions for the Long‑Term Pool investment portfolio and post accounting entries in the general ledger.
  • Prepare dashboards and periodic portfolio analytics.
  • Track portfolio company‑level data for private equity fund investments.
  • Conduct operational due diligence reviews for private equity and hedge fund managers.
  • Assist with AI integration projects within the Investment Office.
  • Support audit, tax, and other regulatory filings.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, economics, or finance (CPA desired).
  • Minimum five years’ experience in finance, accounting, or auditing.
  • Knowledge of professional practice in financial accounting and reporting, internal controls, and external reporting.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze GAAP and IFRS financial documents.
  • Problem‑solving skills and ability to gather and analyze information efficiently.
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ability to analyze large data sets.
  • Team player with strong organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication skills with high professional ethics.
  • Experience with investment operations platforms such as Dynamo, Geneva Advent, BNY Nexen, or Microsoft PowerBI is a plus.
