Job summary

Baystate Health is seeking an Operations Associate to join the Emergency Department team at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. The role focuses on improving patient flow, coordinating admissions and discharges, and supporting rapid bedside operations.

The position requires GED or HiSET and BLS certification, with night shifts part-time. You will work with clinicians and staff to ensure safe, efficient care delivery and effective use of hospital resources.

Qualifications

  • Education: GED or HiSET is required.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association is required or preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Bed management and patient flow coordination across admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Serve as a central communications hub for nurses, physicians, case managers, and hospital teams; provide shift handoffs.
  • Accurately use hospital systems and maintain patient records and discharge/transfer documentation.
  • Assist with staffing assignments, scheduling, and unit projects to support daily operations.
  • Maintain inventories, restock supplies, and ensure logs and resources are up to date.
  • Greet patients and families, answer inquiries, and assist with emergencies and related procedures.

Baystate Health is seeking an Operations Associate (OA) to join our Emergency Department team at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. Our Emergency Department team provides care to a diverse adult patient population, working closely with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver safe, compassionate, high-quality care.

Operations Associate Responsibilities Include:
  • Bed Management & Patient Flow: Coordinates admissions, discharges, transfers, bed assignments, patient transport, and discharge readiness; monitors bed status and supports efficient patient throughput.
  • Clinical & Team Communication: Serves as a central communication resource for nurses, physicians, case managers, ancillary departments, patients/families, and hospital teams; provides shift handoffs and facilitates timely follow-up.
  • Administrative & Computer Duties: Accurately uses hospital systems and maintains patient records, logs, forms, charts, and discharge/transfer documentation.
  • Unit Support & Staffing: Assists with staffing assignments, scheduling, coverage, unit projects, and supports Hospitalists and teaching teams with daily operational needs.
  • Supplies & Unit Operations: Maintains inventories, orders and charges supplies, restocks unit materials, and ensures required logs and resources are up to date.
  • Patient & Emergency Support: Greets new patients/families, assists with inquiries, and initiates emergency procedures and mobilizes appropriate support when needed.
Schedule Details

Job Type: Part-Time, 24 hours per week Shift: Night, 7pm-7:30am Schedule: 12-hour shifts Weekend Requirement: Every other Friday and Saturday Night Holiday Requirements: Every other Holiday

The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees. Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum $17.01 - $20.80 - $25.87
