Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA is seeking an Operations Associate to join the Medical ICU team. The OA will coordinate bed management, patient flow, and communications among nurses, physicians, and case managers to support safe, efficient care.

  • Associates Degree, GED or HiSET is required.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Bed management and patient flow: coordinate admissions, discharges, transfers, bed assignments, patient transport, and discharge readiness; monitor bed status and support throughput.
  • Clinical and team communication: act as a central communication resource for nurses, physicians, case managers, ancillary departments, patients/families, and hospital teams; provide shift handoffs and timely follow-up.
  • Administrative and computer duties: accurately use hospital systems and maintain patient records, logs, forms, charts, and discharge/transfer documentation.
  • Unit support and staffing: assist with staffing assignments, scheduling, coverage, unit projects, and support Hospitalists and teaching teams with daily operations.
  • Supplies and unit operations: maintain inventories, order and charge supplies, restock unit materials, and ensure logs/resources are up to date.
  • Patient and emergency support: greet new patients/families, assist with inquiries, and initiate emergency procedures and mobilize appropriate support when needed.

Operations Associate – Medical ICU

Operations Associate (OA) to join our Medical ICU team at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. Our Medical ICU team provides care to a diverse adult patient population, working closely with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver safe, compassionate, high-quality care.

Operations Associate Responsibilities
  • Bed Management & Patient Flow: Coordinates admissions, discharges, transfers, bed assignments, patient transport, and discharge readiness; monitors bed status and supports efficient patient throughput.
  • Clinical & Team Communication: Serves as a central communication resource for nurses, physicians, case managers, ancillary departments, patients/families, and hospital teams; provides shift handoffs and facilitates timely follow-up.
  • Administrative & Computer Duties: Accurately uses hospital systems and maintains patient records, logs, forms, charts, and discharge/transfer documentation.

Schedule Details
  • Job Type: Full-Time, 36 hours per week
  • Shift: Nights, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
  • Schedule: 12-hour shifts
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other Friday and Saturday Night
  • Holiday Requirements: Every other Holiday

No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.
