Operations Assistant Store Manager, in Training

Position Purpose

The Operations Assistant Store Manager in Training (OASM-IT) will gain hands-on experience in key responsibilities and functions of a Store Manager at The Home Depot. The program includes training, mentorship, and leadership development, focusing on store operations, customer service, safety, product availability, and profitability. During the up to 6-week training, trainees will learn to oversee areas like Customer Service Desk, Receiving, Tool Rental, and more, collaborating with store leadership to develop strategies for success. They will uphold company policies and lead by example.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Training and Preparation (50%): Participate in structured training covering retail management, including staffing, stock management, customer issues, and performance reviews.
  2. Customer Experience (15%): Supervise associates, drive customer service, and ensure customer concerns are addressed effectively.
  3. Sales and Productivity (15%): Assist with merchandise placement, inventory, and store systems management.
  4. Operations Management (10%): Perform opening/closing duties, ensure SOP compliance, and maintain safety standards.
  5. Safety (10%): Enforce safety procedures and safety guidelines at all times.
Reporting and Travel
  • Reports to Store Manager
  • No direct reports
Physical & Working Conditions
  • Stand/walk regularly, lift moderate weights, indoor environment with occasional discomfort.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be 18+, authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Effective cross-team collaboration skills.
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of work experience and 2+ years of leadership experience; preferred 3+ years.
