The Rhode Island Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner is seeking a part-time operational support staff member for the Westerly Education Center in Westerly, RI. The role supports front desk operations, performs general clerical tasks, handles calls, and assists guests with information and services. Closing shift is 8:00 p.m.

to 12:00 a.m. The ideal candidate has strong customer service skills, reliable transportation, and the ability to pass a background check.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Answer main telephone, assist callers, take messages, and direct calls to appropriate staff.
  • Perform noncomplex clerical, word processing and office support duties.
  • Act as frontline customer service representative for Westerly Education Center.
  • Assist guests by providing information and services or directing them to the appropriate source for assistance.
  • Familiarity with computers and the internet.
  • Support staff coverage for services including room rentals, catering, courses and test proctoring.

Job description

Rhode Island Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner has an immediate need for a part-time operational support staff member (closing shift) at its Westerly Education Center, a workforce training and postsecondary education center located in Westerly. The operational support staff member is entrusted to enforce all policies and ensure the safe operation of Westerly Education Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Answer main telephone, assist callers, take messages, and direct calls to appropriate program staff
  • Perform noncomplex, general clerical, word processing and office support duties
  • Act as frontline customer service representative for Westerly Education Center
  • Assist guests by providing information and services or directing guests to the appropriate source for assistance
  • Familiarity with computers and the internet
  • Assist with staff coverage needs to support the delivery of services that include room rentals, catering, credit bearing courses, workforce development training and test proctoring

Shifts: Closing shift (8:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.)

Physical/Mental Requirements
  • Constantly use manual dexterity, follow directions, and adhere to detail.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, speaking, seeing, hearing, and listening.
  • Frequently use eye/hand coordination.

Experience: Customer service: 1 year (Preferred)

This is a part-time, non-standard (exempt) position with a pay rate of $21/hour. The operational support staff report to the director of Westerly Education Center.
