Job summary

Randstad USA in Memphis, TN is seeking an Operational Excellence Support Specialist to advance lean maturity and drive CI across site operations. This on-site contract role focuses on deploying the operating system, optimizing floor layouts, and sustaining disciplined problem-solving and performance standards.

You will partner with the Operational Excellence team and cross-functional leaders to design standard work, 5S practices, TPM alignment, and visual management tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial/Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
• Foundational knowledge of Lean, Continuous Improvement, or IE concepts.
• On-site manufacturing environment experience expected; no licensure required.

Responsibilities

• Optimize workplace layout, visual management, and Tiered Accountability boards.
• Develop clear standard work instructions for core processes.
• Establish 5S, tool shadow boards, and material indicators.
• Update workstation surfaces to protect parts from damage.
• Create autonomous maintenance plans and TPM-related standard work.
• Assess ergonomic risks and implement corrective solutions.
• Support value stream optimization and other continuous improvement projects.

Operational Excellence Support Specialist/Lean Manufacturing Specialist

Location: Memphis, TN (On-Site)

Job Type: Contract / Temporary (6 Months)

Pay Rate: Up to $48.00/hr (depending on experience)

Target Start Date: November 30, 2026

Position Overview

The Operational Excellence Support Specialist will play a key role in advancing lean maturity and continuous improvement initiatives across site operations. Working closely with the Operational Excellence team and cross-functional operational leaders, this role supports the deployment, execution, and sustainment of the company's operating system.

You will help optimize floor operations, reinforce operational discipline, streamline workflows, and drive a culture of structured problem-solving and performance excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Workplace Layout & Visual Management: Optimize work centers and operator work cells. Design and implement visual management tools, including Tiered Accountability (Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3) and problem-solving display boards, process signage, and value stream workflow maps.
• Standard Work & Instructions: Partner with cross-functional teams to build clear, robust standard work instructions for core processes (including changeovers, shift handoffs, start-of-shift, and end-of-shift procedures).
• 5S & Tool Standardization: Establish point-of-use placement for tools and process aids. Design tool shadow boards, configure min/max material indicators, designate inbound/outbound staging areas, and set up daily, weekly, and monthly 5S task cadences.
• Part Protection & Quality: Evaluate and update workstation contact surfaces to mitigate the risk of part handling damage.
• Total Productive Maintenance (TPM): Partner with operations to establish autonomous maintenance plans, control plans, and standard work for process machinery and equipment.
• Ergonomics & Safety: Assess ergonomic risks across work cells and workstations, collaborating with teams to implement effective corrective solutions.
• Continuous Improvement Projects: Support value stream optimization and complete other operational excellence initiatives as directed.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Experience & Certifications: Entry-level to experienced candidates with a foundation in Lean, Continuous Improvement, or Industrial Engineering concepts are encouraged to apply (no specific licenses or certifications strictly required).
• Physical Demands:
• Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
• Comfortable working on-site in a manufacturing/operational setting.
• Ability to handle manual tools as well as automated and semi-automated mechanical and electrical equipment as needed.
